I'm in Nashville and I have to have a permit to keep chickens. It costs $25/year. They also have specific regulations regarding the coop and run sq footage. This year when I renewed my permit I had to send in a picture of my coop for their file. Not sure about Williamson Cty or Ducks though...
So I was shopping at the mall the other day (and somewhat daydreaming) and I passed a teenage boy wearing a t-shirt with big block letters that read BCM. I immediately thought Black Copper Marans....then thought how funny that this trendy Nashville teenager was wearing a chicken shirt...then I...
Ummmm....of course....I knew it was an April Fools Joke...
Dangit! I had been doing good all day long and then once at home and I relax, BYC gets me! No wonder it didn't make much sense LOL
Kudos to this guy...he really kept it going from the few posts that I read :) For the record, I don't pull...

I only know of the Ellington Agricultural Center in Nashville. It is free. You would take I-24 in to Harding Place...it's probably about 15 minute drive once off the interstate. You can maybe find a vet nearby, but they would probably charge a fee ??? I don't know...
Sorry about your hen. It's...
What a fine idea! Very sweet.
I have seen that Samaritan's Purse has the option...instead of the shoebox gifts (Operation Christmas Child)...you could buy a family some chickens. I looked at the magazine after Christmas (just a little late), but I think I will have to buy a couple of those...
My Father In Law in Texas bought some feed store Ameraucanas, but I told him they might be EEs. He can't remember what the sign said/spelled Ameri or Ameraucana...he was just blinded by the need to have some chicks!!! LOL
Are there any forms of True Ameraucanas that would would hatch a chick...
My Welsummer hen had huge spurs. They were at least an 1" long.
It happens sometimes...like bearded hen turkeys If it's laying an egg it's def a hen/pullet.
Check out the spur just visible above the grass on her left leg...
I would think they could order for you...maybe call them and ask...
You just let me know about the pics...whenever. we may have to do it in more than one day - on a warm sunny day. (can you tell that today gave me major spring fever!) I spent the afternoon cleaning my coop from top to bottom...
Donna - I went to the TSC in Hendersonville last Friday. They didn't have WL. They had Cornish Rocks, Black Australorps, Ducks, Red Sex Links, maybe 1 other ??? They were straight run (most of them) and They were $2.99 each. They didn't have chicks in all of their brooders so maybe more will...
I had two broody girls last summer and let them hatch some chicks. I thought it would be good to let them be broody together, but then it got complicated once it was hatch time. I had to separate them because they can get territorial and chicks can get hurt. So, my advice is to just give eggs to...
Hello! I just lost one similarly this week. I really think it was probably worms which they can get around the yard - wild birds, etc. It's so hard to know for sure, but it wasn't respiratory. I had just treated my whole flock with Wazine in their water the day my hen died (she was almost 2 yrs...
Thank you! I worked out there today and I have put up a partition where they can still be close but can't hurt any of the other ones chicks...just in case.
Hello All! I have 2 broodies sitting on 1 nest. These girls have been attached at the hip their entire broodiness. I gave them 2 clutches of eggs, but they scooted them together into 1 pile. Someone recently warned me about a danger to the chicks having two mamas. Is this true? Should I separate...
LOL...It did confuse me for a minute I'm glad your silkie perked back up! That's great news!!! I'd be up for a coop tour, too...just pm me sometime bc I don't check this thread all the time.
Hello fellow urban chicken keepers! I am in between you both...between Belmont Blvd and 21st.
We got our girls last February. We've learned a lot and have had a blast! Our neighbors have been great. There really hasn't been anything to complain about. We didn't have a bad smell or a big fly...
