I'm in a little town here in Texas called Hutto, (home of the hippos). Just outside Austin. I have six hens currently, only 13 weeks old and just trying to get them through our hot, Texas summer. So far they seem to take it in stride. I do have a misting unit installed in the run which really...
We have finally finished the coop and run. There is a covered run and an open air run behind, which you can't really see in the photos. There is a pop door that leads from the enclosed run to the back run, large enough for the chickens to get through. The people door was just a pre-made door...
My girls won't eat the BOSS right out of the bag, dry. I have been giving them some daily for a week and they won't touch them at all. so I think I am going o try soaking them overnight and giving them to the girls moist and see what happens.
I jut bought a bag of Boss yesterday and I plan on giving it to my girls today. They have never had any before so I am hoping they like it and will eat it.
My six girls get two hours of supervised free-range time as I have red tailed hawks and coopers hawks galore where I am. I have a pop door built into the side of their run and I just leave that open for them. They have a 1/4 acre to run on and find bugs. They will usually go back to their run...
I planted two 10 foot by 18 inch rows of bush beans and transplanted two yellow bell pepper plants to get them out of the way of the beans. Then I filled a small raised bed with fresh soil that I built just for my chickens to scratch and eat from, I will probably plant some mixed greens in that.
YES!...............Finally!......after two weeks, they put themselves in the coop tonight, on their own at 8:45. Of course, Maizee, she is the last to do anything new, cried for about 5 minutes before she followed the others up the ramp but she finally managed. No more chicken wrangling for me...
6of6chicks...I don't have a light in the coop. I am going to see if they will go in on their own tonight if I don't do anything. Hopefully they will go in before dark as it is very dark in my yard at night.
My chicks are 7 weeks old today. I just pulled them off the Purina Start And Grow which was medicated and I put the on the Scratch And Peck grower. I mostly wanted to get them off medicated feed. I do free-range them and of course they get scraps and such as well.
I have six, 7 week old chicks who have been out in a coop with an attached run for two weeks. I let them out of the coop early in the morning and I put them back in just before dark each evening. They do not want to go back into the coop and I have to pick up each one and put them in. I leave...
Mountain Peeps.........It's only been three days since I switched them and I did mix some of the Start And Grow into their new feed as well. They are looking good and are very active, I just want them to eat. My poor chicks.
That's a good question......I want to know too I just finished building my coop and run and I'm using sand as well. I know what you mean by the little particles that are hard to scoop out.
Hey everyone!......My chicks are seven weeks old and I am trying to wean them off the Purina Start And Grow, mostly to get them off the medicated feed. It's the only commercial feed they have had up till now. I do free range them supervised and I give them veggies from the garden and fruits and...
Bruce....I see what you mean. The chicks are doing fine with it but yes it probably will sag in the center at some point in time, even though it does have a brace underneath.. Anchoring it at the bottom of the coop is good idea! Thanks for the help. :)
HI Bruce....... .I don't know what you mean by shallower than it needs to be? The ramp in about 14 inches wide and I figured that to be actually too wide. We are not really happy with the ramp as it is but the friend of ours who built it did it hastily as he had to leave town for 3 months and...
My new coop...........Still under construction. We are tweaking it here and there and we need to finish putting shingles on the roof. There is a "pop" door coming from the enclosed run to a open space behind the main run that will be used as additional foraging space. I also installed a misting...
I'm so sorry.....and I do know what you mean. I had 5 hens that were 15 weeks old. I had errands to run one morning and when I came home, they were all dead. A dog had torn into the coop and killed them all. I was so devastated that it has taken me two years to order more chicks. My new babies...
Mine just shipped today from Meyer.........one Buff Orp., one Black Australorp, two Easter Eggers, one Cuckoo Marans and a Meyer Meal Maker". I am curious to see what the Meal Maker will be! I am hoping to have them Friday, so excited!!!
