    Egg question

I found this stash of eggs today. My question is not being sure how old they are, can you safely float test them to check for any bad ones or chuck them all. I don't think they have been there more than 2 weeks.

    No eggs

Thanks, I agree. That's why I'm trying to get more information on this. The problem, I believe, stem from some standing water from our septic drain field. I caught some hopped the fence and were in there drinking the water. Since no parasites or coccidiosis showed up in the text, he just...

    No eggs

Ok, well my vet doesn't trest chickens so he suggested I treat with tetracycline. Well that might explain things. So for 7 days. How much should I be giving and what about egg withdrawal for the few that I am getting?

    No eggs

Ok, I think I kicked lice butt. However, I'm still not getting many eggs. Only 1 today! . I did take the poop to vet. He checked for worms & sent off sample to test for coccidiosis. All clear with that. He did recommend as a Hail Mary to give them a round of tetracycline in case they have an...

    No eggs

Any thoughts on this: out of 13 2-3 y/o hens I am getting maybe 1-4 eggs a day! They were laying like crazy and have cut way back. I saw them a month or so ago in a part of our yard that had standing water from our septic drain field and drinking it! Could this cause the slow down in eggs...

    Lice

When cleaning a poopy butt, i noticed lice on her. Will dusting with DE kill them? Or what is the best way to get rid of them? My flock is 13 hens and egg laying has diminished last several weeks so I'm worried my whole flock has them. I sprinkled DE in the nesting boxes and on the roost.

Update on Louise. Gave her some Benadryl that night and here she is 2 days later. Acting normal. Eating, running with the other girls. Still looks a little swollen though. Hmmm, perplexed.

    Swollen face

Here is another picture of her. She doesn't seem to be having any type of breathing difficulties and nothing draining from her nostrils.

    Swollen face

After I let my gals out of the coop this morning, I found this one back in the coop on the roost. When I looked closer I saw something black, maybe a tick, above her eye. When I touched it it fell off so I couldn't have a closer look. Left her with a tiny puncture wound and a small amount of...

    Help with Aggressive Ducks

I too am having issues with my drakes. I have 4 ducks, 2 male, 2 females. Penned in a large run with my chickens. The Pekin drake is very aggressive towards my hens. Then the other drake joins in on pinning the poor hen and biting her neck. It's almost like they are trying to get on her to...

    Broodiness? and squeeking

I have a Buff Orphington that has been sitting in the nesting box constantly for about a week now I dont think she is laying, and she acts broody, but she is not sitting on eggs. Will they go broody even if they aren't sitting on eggs? I also heard one of my other hens "squeaking" like a...

are my cornish crosses sick? safe to eat?

We just butchered ours this past weekend and they were @10 weeks. I think we let them go too long because we bbq'd one and it was chewy & tough. They were so fat all they did was lay around all day. . Is this a problem anyone else has had? Next time we will let them out to free range and not...

are my cornish crosses sick? safe to eat?

Yes, I was keeping feed available all the time but now only in AM and late day if they finished it all in AM. Fatties were laying around the feeder with their heads hanging over the food! So I don't know about the red rump. It's always there now.
