Noticed today when i got home that the tips of my roosters comb are a blackish/purple .I know they can get frostbite but i live in NC and the low last night was around48 degrees,and if it is frost bite what can i do to fix it?

I was watching my chickens yesterday and observed one of my larger hens scratch a small piece of plastic out of the ground and ate it. Will that hurt it or will she be able to pass it through?
