    Letting Guineas Raise Their Young

The father is lavender, he is warming the babies in the cold wet grass this morning. They are a week old today or tomorrow, they spend their days out with the parents all day. It's amazing how well they travel, just eating grass seeds and bugs, all fourteen are healthy and doing well.

Isn't It Too Early For Eggs?

Last year one of the females made a strange call when laying. I just noticed it today, went to investigate and this is what I found. I am guessing several birds have contributed, I have 7 females and 2 males. We have had some warm weather but I am totally shocked and unprepared.

    Trouble Passing Egg

Do guineas ever have problems passing eggs? Ethel has been laying for some weeks now, one egg a day. In the last few days I have noticed her sitting twice a day, morning and afternoon, on the nest. I know she hasn't gone broody, and shes making a strange noise I haven't heard before. Kind of...

The...

    Predators and Window Screens

Six Week Confinement -Does This Include A Covered Run?

I know the guineas are supposed to be confined for at least 6 weeks before they free range, going back to the coop at night. I am fencing in a small area attached to my coop, and it will have the top covered. During the 6 weeks confinement can I let them out in this covered fenced area?

    Worried About Snakes

I plan to have a small covered fenced area attached to my coop. This will eventually be inside a larger fenced area. I plan to cover it with chicken wire, and the keets will be 5 weeks old when I put them in the coop, do I need to worry about snakes getting them?
