How long can chickens carry Mareks without showing symptoms?

I am 90% sure I have Mareks in my Silkies, I haven't had a blood test but have had several symptoms of the different forms. A few years ago I bought some birds from a show, they were from commercial breeders and I thought the birds has been vaccinated. Two of them died within a year, one with a...

Has anybody tried to grow oca/New Zealand yam?

Yesterday it rained all day and when I went to feed the chickens I found that Klingon and his brother Herbert had been fighting. They had no injuries except a few comb scratches but clearly they'd had a good old tussle and poor Klingon looked like he'd been dumped in a mud bath. Today the sun...

Share your loner/ misfit chickens, make a "virtual flock"!

There always seems to be a loner in every flock, maybe a runt or bottom of the pecking order. Some just seem to prefer their own or human company. I think these chickens often have a lot of character so I was hoping members would like to share stories and pictures here. My loner is Errol, a...

    Chicken Olympics

Have read in paper there will be live chickens (and other assorted farm animals) featured in the Olympic opening ceremony. Am not sporty but will watch with interest, hope they are well trained/contained, have visions of chaos!

    Hello everyone

I'm very new to forums but not so new to keeping chicks. Have a flock of 13, mainly Silkies, but also some crossbreeds. They are all pets so eggs are a bonus. I love all the different characters, something people who haven't kept chickens don't appreciate, and they never fail to amuse me!
