The hen above is not a Brown Red ... though yours may turn out to be similar in appearance. A brown red female with more proper coloring can be found here: http://ameraucanaalliance.org/photos_files/lfbrownredf.JPG. One of our young pullets is in the middle of these girls:
I would echo...
These guys are ridiculously cute.
Just had 15 come in this morning!!!
A couple needed a little TLC, but look like they should make it. So glad the PO called for me to come pick them up - they'd have been out another day for delivery and may not have fared so well. Safe travels for your little...
lol @Hangtown Farms . The girls are just starting to lay again for our second hatch. This might be all I have in me for this year - who knew hatching would be so stressful?
Babies!!! Finally some sweet little peeps from our brown reds.
My hatch rates are terrible (5/21 for the Amers, 4/5 for Marans). I think the "dry incubation" we tried was a little too dry, perhaps. Was hoping more would make an appearance today, but looks like they might be done...
We're on day 23 here. Looks like a 33% hatch rate. Not sure what happened to the ones still in the 'bator.
4/5 of the Marans, 0/1 OE, and 5/21 of the Amers hatched. So whatever conditions were (humidity too low, temps too high?), they were pretty good for the Marans. For the ones that...
Outstanding!
Mine are making progress ... very slowly. Had the one BCM hatch last night and two Amers this morning. Two more pips so far, but they're taking their time.
One of the Ameraucanas has unexpected coloring. Parents are brown red, chick has chipmunk stripes.
No problem - can't take too much credit, though. I saw the idea from someone on the Ameraucana thread. Seems pretty handy. They're the big suet feeders from Lowe's (haven't seen them for sale other places).
lol - yes, there are some brown red Ameraucana in there, too. :)
It's a mess of trying new things in there. I have suet feeders to keep different pairings separated and inside of those are cut up egg cartons to help keep chicks from rolling their hatch buddies around.
Babies!!!
We're due for lockdown tomorrow! Looks like 21 Ameraucana, 1 OE, and maybe 5 BCM (hard to tell). Trying to keep track of eggs from individual parings this time, which adds a bit of a new twist for me. Took out the turner last night and started to increase the humidity a bit. Was trying dry...
Cute!!!
I keep saying I can't wait for babies, but think I've heard "peep, peep" a few times from the 'bator today. It's only day 16 - eek! I can wait! Hope all is okay in there. Might have to take out the turner and candle tonight.
Hey Cheri14 - I think it really depends upon what your goals are to state which is "better". Our two "Americauna"/EE gals were bought by my MIL for her grandsons one spring at the farm store. They were adorable little chicks! Irresistible. They turned out to be extraordinarily hardy and are...
