yes a hamburg - although her 'dad' was a pekin (not my doing) - but she does look like a hamburg but with feathery legs/feet (which i'd like to keep for my pet project) i was thinking perhaps a black/red d'uccle rooster
i've a white rooster and have been wondering if i breed it with a golden spangled coloured hen what would the outcome be? or what would be the best coloured rooster (beside the obvious 'another golden spangle' to replicate - if that's the right word - the pattern on a smaller breed of chicken
dang i've been hoping the wyandotte turns out to be a girls
it's nice to know i might have 2 pullets - now to keep the best looking male to breed them with
Chick from photo 1 standing

and another photo of chick number 3
really have no idea what sex my chicks are
is anyone able to help (supposed to have been d'uccles but everyone says the colouring/markings are wrong - the LAST [photo 6] photo is of a WYANDOTTE)
PHOTO 1 - sounds like it's trying to crow

In amongst 12 hatching eggs I bought there was 1 white wyandotte egg. I thought I had candled it and found it to be infertile so I tossed that egg out, however out of all the eggs that hatched, this was the only chick to hatch without feathers down its legs and feet (the others are supposedly...
Totally agree, chickens are great!
I've only got 2 red shavers but they are one of the better layers I have in my flock.
Lucky they had you to rescue them from the pot I don't think I could eat 1 of my girls or boys - they just become your feathered children (lol, it doesn't help I end up...
Hi there
I spend lots of time with my flock too, I love watching them all scratch, peck and forage for food. Their personalities are great By spending time with them you also learn to spot when 1 of them is looking a little off colour - I commented to my partner that our light sussex wasn't...
Hello there
Glad you found this thread Sound like you've got yourself a big flock too. I've not yet had any ex-battery hens in my flock, but today I 'rescued' 3 Pekin bantams from death, the lady who owned them was trimming her flock numbers down, and they were just too cute to leave behind...
Just read an article that said 'roosters' grow feathers a little slower than 'hens' - this would fit nicely in with feather sexing my chicks being that my 2 'boy' have smaller 'wings' ... i'd be sooooooooo happy if both theories are correct
Hi everyone, has anyone ever had Belgium Bearded D'Uucle's hatch with these colours? Looking at previous posts makes me wonder what breed I have (when I bought the eggs I was told they were D'Uucle's).
They are all about a day old
All but 1 hatched with feathered feet...
Thanks, I hope I'm right too, then I can keep them all
Chirpy and Featherless (both 'females') were the first 2 to hatch (exactly 21 days, I'm still amazed by that), all the rest were hatched by the time I looked the next morning.....I noticed Featherfoot ('male' chick) has teeny tiny wing...
How accurate is feather sexing? - hopefully very high as I'm liking the idea I don't have too many roosters
Below - I'm guessing a female

I have no idea how accurate feather sexing is, but I gave it a go
Below is Featherless (named so because 'she' does not have feathers down 'her' leg)
Below is Midgit, 'he' was the smallest to hatch.
Below is Featherfoot (loads of feathers down 'his' leg. 'He' has very tiny wing...
