We cannot find a competent vet here nor pay for it. The egg was soft and no wider than a thumb. I'm baffled by the solid mass she laid right before the soft egg. It was weird and the size of a robin egg, a tiny yolk inside!

Thanks! I was told she most likely has an infection but, I would think she would have spread it to the others through her droppings right? Once she gets some sort of formed soft egg out she perks up for several days also.

Hello all! This is our last ditch effort to save our duck! She was hatched in May 2013, started laying in Sept 2013. Early on she had multiple soft eggs but the contents were normal. Most of the winter she laid perfect eggs. But had an episode of part of her vent stuck out maybe only a quater...

Thanks Hennibal. For the lonely duckling I take each of my ducklings when they are only days old and play lullaby music on a cd. Sometimes just the silence tends to make them scream. I've had to separate a duckling away from the others and this really helped.

Would like to know if the blackjack rubber would be safe inside a duck coop walls only. I know ducks are more sensitive to odors from chemicals. We have our coop built out of trex decking for outer shell and inside is the pressed composit wood we got for free. Want to protect the walls as the...

Amiga, my sqft is smaller than your enclosure. 6x71/2 I have 2 WH, 5 runners, 1KC that I would like to keep but if the space should only allow 6, I will decrease two more runners.

    Square Footage per Duck?

Hi all! I am in need of downsizing my flock as I just cannot afford to build another daytime enclosure. I have lightweight ducks, and they are free range all the time 8am to 8pm but I must return to work and I want to place whatever will fit appropriately in the 6ft by 7.5ft daytime enclosure on...

I have read that it should be 10sqft for every duck, seems like thats ok but I've read up to 25sqft per duck. Huge difference. Anyone able to chime in?

Wow in a 10x16? I must go and measure this pen, my hubby has to be wrong, we wouldn't be able to fit that much in it! I bet it's more of a 9x12 or something odd! Brb

Hi all! Quick question! Reading all the different spacing needs for ducks have varied so much I'm confused. We have a 12x10 or maybe a 15x10 daytime enclosure on top of grass that we don't use much but will need to use more often during the day. How many ducks would be acceptable in that space...

    Sick ducks? Help! Newbie!

I need a better duck book than the Holderread book. Just not getting the info I want. Any suggestions? I had read that wild birds can bring disease to my flock and they won't leave the food bowl alone! I'm finding bird poop everywhere too! How can I keep them from finding the duck feed bowl...

Introduced ACV just yesterday as a result of the drop in eggs. Ducks went to it very little, more interested in their plain water bucket and their vitamin water bucket.

So today i used duct tape over each bite and it hasent itched all day! I am a nurse so my thought is that it's not being aggravated by touch since it's covered so less histamine response so less itching! Still pretty grossed out by reading about so many different kinds of mites! Dog mites...

Well I always thought they stayed attached but I was reading that by the time you itch they are long gone! We use to use fingernail polish after we scratch the itch open. Personally, I think there is a critter still in there! Why do they itch more at night? Eeewww! How can you tell if it's a...
