I would try catching him to see how bad (or not) his injuries are. Sounds like my hen a few days ago when she had it out with a hawk. Torn comb and wattles, scratched eye and scratched belly. My chihuahua got to them and scared off the hawk before it could do any serious damage, but that could...
I've heard that before about the calcium pills... so, just go to Walmart and get some plain calcium pills? How do I give them to her? I know that I gag on them and I'm 20 times bigger than her ;)
Hi all!
I know that the answers are here in the forums somewhere, I just can't wrap my head around reading right now (lack of sleep, probably) and I know that some of y'all have had to deal with this issue, I just need some advice. And comforting. And tequila...
Let me start on Sunday...
Yep, get a variety :)
I have 7 chicks right now ... 2 Silkies (one is bantam), 2 D'uccles and 3 buff Orpingtons. By far, the orpingtons are the most docile. The LOVE to be picked up and loved on! :)
Hahahahaha!!! I already call the bigger one "FuzzyButt" because of the poof of tail feathers that popped up over night ;)
I'm watching them play with the rest of the chicks (5 week old Silkie, 3 wk old Silkie and a pair of 3 wk old D'uccles) and I notice the smaller Orps will challenge...
I figured it was still to early to tell yet. I'm just hoping that my "Momma's boy" is truly a boy, LOL! "He" is the one on the right, the bigger of the 3 Orps that hatched. The 2nd and 3rd are identical as far as feathering... I am REALLY hoping for 1 roo and 2 hens... not vice versa ;)
Hi all!
This is probably for the more experienced breeders of Orpingtons out there, but here it goes anyway :)
I have some 3 week olds, I know that sexing is better on older chicks, but I'll feel bad if my girls have boy names and boys have girl names, LOL!
both are from the same clutch...
Okie dokie! We had 6 hatchlings!!! The first was the Silkie/Sizzle who ended up with the name "Spock" (my son's a Trekkie), "Splat" - buff orpington that looks like a big SPLAT when he lays down, Blossom & Ranger (oldest son is a military fan) the other 2 buff orps, then 2 somethings that I have...
sorry the pics are so blurry, my hands are shaking, LOL! Love the little curly feathers on the back of the head! And 5 toes! Silkie? Frizzle? Sizzle??? LOL! They're supposed to be surprises, guess that's exactly what I got! 1 out, 5 more to go!!!
Wow! 4 pages since I posted last! I have one hatchling so far... looks like it may be a FRIZZLE!!! Just hatched 20 minutes ago and already has feathers curling on its neck, head and belly! It kicked out a little early and detached the umbilicus a little soon, had to use some corn starch on it to...
This is the absolute WORST time to be alone, LOL!!! My DH is looking at me like I'm batty, but he doesn't deal with it all day in and day out like I do. From a spastic thermometer, to a new thermometer, to a spastic bator ... I'm surprised the poor eggs have made it this far. Out of 31, I have 8...
