Welcome to BYC, I live in Jonesville now, but am from W-S and work there. We had a Cooper's Hawk get into out coop, but it was chasing a small bird and became confused. We live on 20 acres and luckily our Hawks are catching rodents on some land we had sawmilled. You are right about...
Everyone might not agree with me, but I look at it that I have to protect my chickens and do whatever it takes or move to an island. I am a dog lover so I don't blame the dogs, but the owners. We all know people just don't care. I do not free range unless we are out in the yard with the girls...
completely normal, don't worry. I have 16 hens and did not get one single egg yesterday. You will also notice that eggs will come in all shapes and sizes and sometimes really weird looking.
My two dogs were full grown when we got the chickens and eventually they became part of the family. now the dogs could not care less about them. would I put them in the run with chickens and walk away......................no way, I'm not that stupid
We have a lot of little birds flying around our chickens because we have leland cypress trees around the coop. Hopefully, he was aiming for one of those and just became confused. Believe me, he was not talking very nicely to me when I was taking pictures. After we let him go all our crows...
Cooper's Hawk. This hawk had to go through 2 doors and a pop door. All chickens were outside under a bush and it was inside the coop going crazy ! His talons were about 2 inches long. After a "Jesus" talk we let him go and told him never to return !
I had a hen with a broken leg a couple of years ago and I wrapped it too tightly and it began to swell and started draining. I quickly redressed the wound with vet wrap and started her on Pen G by injection. All her scales fell off the bad leg, but grew back nice and pink. She recovered after...
I had a hen with a broken toe this summer. I taped it up and it eventually became hard, and I just pulled it off after it died. she has a toe missing now, but it does not matter to her.
I have one out of 21 that talks all the time especially when we are outside. She will follow us around the coop as we are cleaning and never stops chatting. It can be a little much to take, but I think she is just a chatter box.
Do you have a mouse or rat problem? I have a naked butt chicken, but nothing like that. Never have I seen that type of loss especially in the rooster as well. Could they be scraping up against something in the coop? The one interesting point is whatever it is it is affecting the chickens in...
The more I think about it, especially since the "break" is at the base of the skull, I just can't believe it is broken. If broken that badly she would have developed a head bleed which would eventually kill her and she would be exhibiting other signs. Are her pupils reacting to light? I...
