If we lived closer we would. We live up near St. Albans. She's a buff brahma. Maybe we'll wait it out for herr to be broody. I tried to find your VT thread to follow I couldn't find it. If you know of anyone that has eggs let me know! We'll definitely be interested once the time comes! How often...
We'd love to do eggs! But we'd probably have to wait former to become broody? Assuming toy can't force her lol. We'd like to try and do fertilized eggs before going w. the adult option.
Thank you for being so helpful! We're newish chicken parents :)
We'd like a couple barred rocks. Can you keep the chicks outside in the winter or would we have to have her hatch the, mother bring them in?
Also, when you quarantine the chickens do you completely separate them or just seperate w. A fence?
I wish we would have added more this summer/fall. Kinda a pain now in the winter..... Do you know anything about getting fertilized eggs and having the chickens hatch them. Good idea bad idea?
We just lost a chicken and are down to 1. We want to get a couple more so our one chicken has a friend. Is it safe to add a couple of adult hens to our coop?
Not sure if they are broody or not. Both girls are 2, one is a Buff Brahma and the other a RI red. It started w. the Buff and now recently the RI red is now not leaving the box. I am not thinking they are broody, but not sure what to do. We had a rooster but we have to get rid of him after...
Hi-
I have 2 chickens that seem to be depressed. they are staying in the coop all day. I am not even sure if they leave to get food and water. They are in their nesting boxes. They aren't laying any eggs but sitting in the boxes as if they did. Not sure what I should do. Should I force them...
UPDATE: after being attacked by Rooty (my left leg will have scars to remember him by) and my bf being chased around house. Rooty is now in chicken Heaven.
thanks for all the support!
Hi-
our little chicken farm started w. 9 chicks. one was a rooster (that we didn't know about) other 8 were hens. We recently had a raccoon come and destroy half of our flock. We were down to 3, Rooty (the rooster) and 2 hens. Rooty was mean to start w. after the attack he got vicious. My...
I don't purposely let my bulldog go head to head w. him. we have free range chickens so they are all out. the rooster the guard the yard and not let the dogs out to go to the bathroom. my bulldog is trying to show her ground as much as the rooster is trying to show his. I am super frustrated and...
We've started out w. 9 baby chicks last spring. We found out once they got older that we in fact had 8 hens and 1 rooster. Last fall he started to get possessive over the ladies and started to attack my boyfriend, dogs and me! My poor Rottweiler is deathly scared of him as far away as he can. My...
I live in northern VT and it gets cold at night, like negative twenty cold. do people recommend putting heating lamps/lamps in the coop at night? I have heard some people say no and some people say yes. just looking for some opinions.
My girls have started to molt a few more then others. We have added protein to their diet but is there anything else we can do? It's super cold where I live (last few weeks it's been below zero) along with shorter days. They seem depressed and bored. Any suggestions?
Thank you! I have notice more and more feathers around. I will also check for lice and mites. If I do have them how should I go about treating for them?
