    Duck with leg band

I bought a full size female duck at a poultry swap recently. She has a leg band on one of her legs. It does not seem to be tight or bothersome to her. Do those need to be removed? I feel that the removal might be more bothersome than the band... but I also read those should be removed...

My Duck is having seizures and going stiff

What is going on??? This has been happening for two days. I just found it floating upside down in the little swimming pool... thought "this is it" and went to pick it up and its walking around fine. It seems to seizure every once in awhile (I have seen it twice) and then goes so stiff that...

    Stray Roosters

Definitely wait until they are asleep with the girls and then you should be able to catch them quite easily. Put them in a cage for the night and Presto... they are caught for rehoming in the morning!

    4 new chickens sleep outside

I added 4 new hens a few weeks ago and everyone gets along fine EXCEPT that the four hens sleep outside of the two coops I have. WHY??? They sleep outside of the coop even if it is raining. My husband is thinking of constructing a little coop annex for them. If there anyway that I can get...

    Sand vs. Hay/straw?

I used straw in the spring. HUGE mistake. It got smelly, soggy, and never dried out. Then my chickens started wheezing!!! I removed all the hay (which was a disgusting hard job) and the wheezing stopped. I think it started to actually mold with all the rain and no sun. Stick to dirt...

    Mud!

I have a dirt floor in my run and even though I let the chickens, 2 ducks, and 2 goslings free range all day, their run is beyond disgusting. It stinks. It's gross and my poor Pekin ducks are a muddy mess. Advice with all of this rain in Maryland or is it just a hopeless mess until the...

Chinese Goslings in Frederick County, Maryland

I just wanted to pass on that the Southern States in Damascus, MD (Route 27) has Chinese (2 day old) goslings for sale. The lady there ordered them for me but I can only take 2 and she has 6 more left because she had to order higher numbers. In case there are any locals on here, I told her...

    runt???

You might want to consider moving her away from the others, or at least dividing them in some manner where they can still be close but not in the same area. I had a runt as well but left it with the others because they all got along well. The others kept growing but she didn't. She still ate...

    Noisy Newborns

Ok - so I have 2 baby geese and Boy are they noisy!!! Everytime I walkaway from them, they cry. Constantly and ear-piercingly loud. This is the first time I've ever had geese. They have food and water and the company of two silkie chicks. Do they need something??? My husband is wondering...

UPDATE question regarding 7 week old chicks going out to the coop...

I actually put my 4 week old pullets out about a week ago and they are doing fine. I had the same situation with dust and poop in the basement so they had to go! They do have their own small chicken house within the same run that they share with the other older hens. I have not let them run...
