Hens laying everyplace but nesting boxes

Thank you all. I apologized to them in advance when I locked them up this evening. I hope this doesn't take long.

Hens laying everyplace but nesting boxes

I check there frequently. It is high enough that I can see under it. They have found a good hidey hole! I'm going to keep them in the run starting tomorrow but will feel cruel.

Hens laying everyplace but nesting boxes

I haven't noticed a regular laying pattern. I've been checking their whereabouts every 30 mins and always find all three together either under the back porch or their favorite lilac bush. This is just so mysterious.

Hens laying everyplace but nesting boxes

I hope someone has a solution to my problem, I'm at a loss on what to do. I have three hens, a 7 yr old RIR and two 3 yr old BOs. My RIR continues to give me an egg two to three times a week, in the nesting box. But one BO was laying in one of my large planters and the other was laying between...

    Breaking a broody hen

Goodness, it's been a while since I've been on Backyard Chickens. I'm not sure I like the user unfriendly format. Used to be able to find the needed forum and easily start a new thread. Apparently those days are gone, not even sure this is going to post, hope so because I need help, I think...

new roo won't roost with pullets

Sorry update is tardy. After clipping his wings to keep him in the run, he started voluntarily getting on his new, elevated roost on the fourth night. Everybody is happy and peaceful now. Thanks again

new roo won't roost with pullets

Thanks. She can't catch him to put him on the roost, he flies away, and he will fly out of the run. Should he be kept in coop by himself during the day? -if she can catch him.

new roo won't roost with pullets

Hello eveyone. I'm trying to help my neighbor who added a year old polish crested mix roo to her flock of twelve, eight month old production red pullets two days ago. She put him on the roost with the others the night she brought him home. Several pullets fought him a bit the next morning but...

Introducing two new, young chicks to one older

I had to leave town Saturday afternoon, returned Sunday afternoon. Imagine my surprise (and horror) when I saw my two new girls roaming the yard beside my older hen. Hubby was supposed to separate them Saturday night. He thought that was cruel so let them all roost together then he turned them...

Introducing two new, young chicks to one older

Thanks so much for the advice. I hadn't thought about switching them around. My older chick won't be too happy about staying in the run though.

Introducing two new, young chicks to one older

My tiny flock recently went from two to one hen,I've lost five over the years. That left me with one four year old Rhode Island Red who constantly looked for her BFF who had died. She was so lonely I decided to get her a couple new buddies to hang with. The girl I lost was a four year old Buff...

Is Poultry Protector effective on external parasites?

I just treated them wirh.Poultey Protector again. Checked Annie over again, still don't see anything. She constantly pecked at her wings while I was working on her. This white spot on her comb is the only thing I see. Is it an indication of the problem?

Is Poultry Protector effective on external parasites?

I found permethrin concentrate today but now my brain is scrambled from trying to figure out how much to use. The directions say 8 oz in 33 gallon and 1/2oz per bird. By my calculations that is a little less than 1/2 cc of the mixed concentrate per bird - it is impossible to get that amount out...

Is Poultry Protector effective on external parasites?

I doused her with it last night. She is just sitting on the roost this morning, won't come down. I didn't see any signs of parasites again last night. How long does it take to see improvement? I'm hoping to find parmethrin today in case the poultry protector doesn't stop the scratching?
