EVERYTHING you need to know is in this book! I read it cover to cover before I got my first flock. I keep it on my desk in the She Shed as a reference.
My hen and her eggs were in a hutch. She hatched one beautiful chick with 5 eggs waiting. The next day the food dish was toppled and 2 eggs were missing. We replaced the food and water.
A day later, the chick and remaining eggs were gone. She ate everything. I'm afraid she may become an egg...
I moved my broody hen and her nest of 8 eggs from the coop, into a separate hutch inside the chicken run. She has plenty of food and water. The hen has been on these eggs for 12-16 days because other hens laid more eggs in her nest box while she got up to eat.

Can anyone tell me if this is a cockerel? Purchased 6 'Ameraucanas' from a Ma and Pa hardware, all advertised as poulets, but I did not care. It's about 20 weeks and I'm sure it's an EE.
Thank you for your quick response. I am interested in 3 poulets and 1 cockerel. Having a rooster and hens from another unrelated line would be great. Please PM me with prices and availability.
I am within driving distance of Slidell and would prefer to pick up the birds to save on shipping...
It's 7 months later....did you figure out the breeds? I'm considering buying chicks from Ideal Poultry.
Also, why do you want so many roosters? Most people get only one, because the males fight each other.
My policy: only one Rooster... The others make their way to my gumbo pot!--
OK you guys, it's been 5 months now... Can someone post a photo of the yellow EE? I have one that came out of the EE bin at a Ma and Pa Hardware Store. It's supposed to be a pullet but I'd love to know what it may look like as an adult
