    Persistent lice despite treatments

I have done a couple of times. I have been keeping a close eye, and I have inspected the other girls, but Clementina seems to be the only one with this persistent problem.

    Persistent lice despite treatments

Hi everyone, My Clementina has had these annoying yellow lice for a month now, despite my bathing her, treating her with DE, clipping the affected areas. Now, she has small sores near her vent, due to the persistent lice. She's been weakened by it, and she is on a special diet with lots of...

Florentina is the remaining chicken in my flock, Enriqueta was just killed a couple of hours ago.. h

I live in Portland, OR in an urban setting. My Enriqueta (my plymouth rock) was just killed by something (I think it was a cat) that broke her neck. We have had racoons but we have not seen them in a while. She was out with Florentina (my buff orpington), and something took her. We found her...

Crazy week full of events - this is my first mini-flock.

Thanks Cityfarmer! I will keep it in mind. I find hard to think about eating any of my chickens, which is funny, because I have eaten lots of them in my life. Any tips on how to sacrifice one if they get sick and you don't want them to suffer anymore? So far my girls are healthy and happy, but...

Crazy week full of events - this is my first mini-flock.

Thanks for the advice! I will take it into account. I think two is perfect. Do you think the same happens when there is only one individual left in the flock?

Crazy week full of events - this is my first mini-flock.

I'm considering to get a third girl in the future, although Enriqueta and Florentina are already doing a number to my yard, and have steadily given me all the eggs we really need. How many birds are you going to get?

Crazy week full of events - this is my first mini-flock.

This week has been really intense for me and my girls. Sadly, I lot Clementine all of the sudden and I'm still quite in shock. I tried my best, but nothing I did seemed to help. I have decided to share some of my experiences. I also had to give my first chicken bath ever, and it was better than...

How cold is TOO cold for a chicken?

Hi, I live in Oregon, and I recently had to deal with this, since the last four days we've reached 32F. The roof of my coop is clear corrugated plastic to give them more light, and I was worried about the temperatures. I have installed the heat lamp in their run and runs from 3.30 - 11.00 pm...

Clementine still not doing well - video available- please, help!

Hi Chooks4life, Thanks for your response. I had added crushed garlic to her water yesterday, etc. Unfortunately, a vet was out of the question because there only one Avian vet in the area and she was not available for emergencies. Sadly Clementina passed away last night despite all I tried...

Today is the second day of hard breathing, here are the symptoms she is having, see if this is familiar: 1. She is breathing through her mouth. She started wheezing a little bit ago. 2. She has runny green and white droppings, but no traces of blood. 3. She shakes her head and tries to rub...

My Clementine has labored breathing! Help.

My Clementine has labored breathing. I removed her this morning from the rest and I brought her into the house. I placed some water and some food next to her and she drank a few times in the space of a two hours. Then I started noticing how her breathing was starting to become labored. I went to...

    Hello from sunny Devon, England.

Hi Devon, welcome to BYC. Look.into getting them the right feed for their age of course, but don't v forget to spoil them a little too. I discovered they live a mixture of warm parts, rice, greens and corn. They go crazy for it and can be a great tool to train them. I'm new to this forum, but...

What to do to free range?

I have a run too. I'm a little scared to let them on their own for hours, because there are cats in my neighborhood. I let them tub sound the yard and they really enjoy it. Good luck.

Moving the chickens from the garage to their new coop

I moved mine when they were just 8 weeks. Use a good treat, and they will follow. Mine learned right away how to use a ladder to get into the coop. The are smart animals, they will learn right away. But that's help kids. Also welcome. I'm new here too. I hope you enjoy your girls. They are fun.
