Thanks Terrie, that was what I was wondering. They started laying in Dec. so I thought at first they were like my chickens but like guineas, ducks are game birds so maybe the mallards were seasonal like them too. Thanks for clarifying!
I have a pair of female mallards who are 8 mos old. I used to have three females & one drake who I hatched all together last summer. At 5 mos. of age, all three females were laying while the drake was around. I gave away the drake & one female @ 6 mos. of age and about a week later the egg...
Although it was tough to watch, it was informative... wish I'd see this 5 weeks ago, my chicks are six weeks now so I guess I'll just need to wait for the crowing stage to determine which are male. Unless there is another option?
Houndit, love the pics! My Ducks do the same thing.... "drinking water, what drinking water? I'm going to bathe in it!" Needless to say it gets very cold here in NW Montana!
Oh and for you Southerner, I was born & raised in Southern AZ, you DO get use to it!
Thanks for the info... I was just curious...I see lots of websites selling juvenile pairs of ducks and other exotic birds but not eggs. I live around a 20 acre marsh behind me with wood ducks and many other water & land fowl but I've not seen any Mandarins. The pair of males I have now (avatar...
That's why I finally decided to rid of mine! Other than having a mean streak towards my ducks, they'd never shut up! Found a new home for them last week and the peace and quiet is heavenly! Yes they had they're moments of being funny (like letting me know about the location of the garden hose)...
Wow! Do you all sell wood duck eggs? I had no idea! I'm currently raising two wood ducks. 1lpoock, what is it like raising Mandarins compared to Woodies?

UPDATE>>>Thanks to all who replied, we received an overwhelming response to the guineas and have found a new home for them. Wish I'd have enough to go around!
There is nothing wrong with your Guineas, that is just their personally. Unless you can separate them entirely from the rest of your flock there is going to be a constant harassment factor going on. I've raised them from keets, bred them & hatched them, they're personalities never change.
I'm...
10 Mo. old BR Roo, needs a good home, is gentle. Purchased in error as a pullet. Great breeder, Have 12 chicks now from him. But it's time for him to move on. Located in MT, outside of Helena. PU only.
Need to find a home for my Guineas, they're 18 mos old , 1 male 3 female, all a different color! The male is a Pearl Pied & the girls are a Pearl, Buff Pied & Coral Blue. All hatched & hand raised. Locted in Canyon Creek, MT. , 25 miles NW Helena.
Wow, great pics! I swear though, I don't have Dels but by the look of these pics I'm going to "look a likes" from my recent hatch of BR/pearl leghorn cross hatchlings. They're only three weeks but so far, they're yellow with black spotting on they wings.

DO NOT REMOVE the plugs! You'll loose your humidity level if you do. You only need to remove them after ALL your chicks have hatched so they can dry but the chances of them all hatching all at once is slim so don't bother, leave the plugs in place. If your brooder is ready to go with...
Thank you suechick! Today I notice a bunch of the chicks have random sprits of spotted black fuzz through out they're bodies, I can't wait to see what color patterns develop when feathers start to sprout. It's like having Dalmatian chicks! I'll see if I can capture them on pics.
Ok here's the newest family members... enjoy!
Dec 19th thru 20th, all 12 chicks hatched
Already learning to scratch & eat
