Our run stinks like no other when it gets wet. What can we do to get the smell to go away? Also on a side note has anyone ever planted rye or some other vegetation in the run to keep the girls happy when they have to be locked up? We have even considered one of the throw and go deer or...

    Foot issue

Our Polish Bantam has an issue with her foot that we don't know what to do about it or what the cause is also it smells funky. Anything you can tell us to fix this problem would be great, if nothing can be done then that's ok too. She won't be the first bird we've killed.

We got our chicks on Feb 26...

is it too early to put them in the coop with the older birds? They are fully feathered, one of our little bantams that we thought was a hen is a roo and is showing he can "attempt" to crow funny little squeaks and all. If we put them in the coop are they ok to just eat the layer food the big...

Indiana law and protecting your flock from domestic animals (Dogs)

I have a question regarding Indiana law and a comment I saw in this area earlier. If there is a dog threatening our chickens do we have a right to kill it? We were told that Indiana (in 2008 or 2009)put a law into affect that will not allow us to kill a dog for threatening our ladies, however it...

How cold is too cold in general for chickens? My wife is worried about our chickens freezing to death. We have a 6x7 coop and have 10 chickens. The water is freezing overnight so I know that it is at least 32 or so here at night lately. The inside of our coop is just stud walls and none of the...

We have had chicks for about two months now and have some questions...

We know we should've probably found this stuff out earlier, however we have been doing fine. We live in Indiana as an FYI if it matters for any of these questions. 1. How long do the chicks need to be fed chick starter? Do the chicks need grit? 2. We have 6 chicks that are about a month to a...
