HorseChick21, I think in general, with most all things, nature says 50% will be pullets and %50 will be cockerels. If you need pullets then you should buy a breed that is sexlinked, or buy "sexed" chicks, keep in mind with sexed chicks, even professional "chicken sexers" they are only about...

I'm not sure if the Silver Penciled Rocks are heritage, but they mature by 20 weeks. With weights from 7.5 to 9.5. They are very good free rangers and all weather types hardy. Plus they lay well. I was just looking at adding some to my flock. And! They are very pretty :)

I too am looking for Gold Laced Orpingtons, either chicks or eggs. Ultimate Orpingtons does not seem to have the Gold Laced, they have many other types but not those.

I can set up an incubator temporarily if needed I suppose, but didn't want to go through all that trouble if I could get away with it.
