It's been some time since you posted, but I am working on Furness here in the states. Started from the ground up with birds of terrible type but those that I knew the genetics. I should start to see the correct genetic combination next season and will improve type over time.
Honestly if you thought this through you would realize they would benefit more by selling without a contract then they do with it. As it stands only a handful of individually picked breeders have these birds from Porter's. I am sure he hasn't made a profit after you factor the cost of...
Just wanted to update this post in case anyone, like myself, comes looking for the same information. The Tacoma Meat Shop has been closed for a couple years now.
I got my chicks today, such a lovely group of babies, the red is looking very promising, and can't wait to see how they grow out!
Thanks Max for a wonderful experience!
HorseChick21,
I think in general, with most all things, nature says 50% will be pullets and %50 will be cockerels. If you need pullets then you should buy a breed that is sexlinked, or buy "sexed" chicks, keep in mind with sexed chicks, even professional "chicken sexers" they are only about...
So I have decided that I want to raise some birds for meat throughout the year. In the past I have purchased meat bird chicks from McMurray Hatchery. I have never had a bad experience with McMurray, and ordering from them has served us well, but I want to be able to hatch my own chicks for...
After some really bad luck with two different incubators I bought the Farm Innovators 4200 Pro. It holds temperature really well, it took me about 8 hours to get the manual dial set to the right spot for the right temperature, but after that everything has worked wonderfully.
I like how the...
I am looking for hatching eggs for either Crested Cream Legbar or Isbar breeds.
I know many people have them and have seen many ads for them here; however, I would like them shipped from someone who is on the West Coast as I am.
I have had very bad luck with shipping eggs from back east...
I have some pics of her on a previous post, you can find it here.

I don't mind people mixing stuff up and having a hodgepodge chicken, but lets not tell lies and sell them as something other than a mutt...
I wasn’t sure where to post this, so I thought the general area was best.
I have come across something that I find extremely frustrating.
A while ago I posted a picture of my “Lavender” Orpington, asking what she was. She looks and acts just like a Lavender but she lays a blueish...
Ok so going through the generations after the second crossing I noticed outcomes that had incomplete lacing. What does that mean? What does that look like? Does anyone have pictures of pulled feathers to compare one over the other? I hate to sound like a dummy, and perhaps I should buy the...
Does anyone who understands the chicken genetics calculator, know what the outcomes will be from a Gold Laced Orp rooster and a Lavender Orp hen?
Or if you have done this would you post a pic?
I'm not sure if the Silver Penciled Rocks are heritage, but they mature by 20 weeks. With weights from 7.5 to 9.5. They are very good free rangers and all weather types hardy. Plus they lay well. I was just looking at adding some to my flock. And! They are very pretty :)
I too am looking for Gold Laced Orpingtons, either chicks or eggs.
Ultimate Orpingtons does not seem to have the Gold Laced, they have many other types but not those.
