Don't know what to do about this.
Our backyard chicken run is partially covered by the cool shade of three aspens and one maple tree. The girls LOVE hanging out under the trees, specially during the summer months. Well, the problem is that during this hot months, the aspens get this little bug...
Hello, good morning,
I live in central Oregon, the high desert. My flock is happy, waiting for warmer days, just like the rest of us
Today I was noticing that there are quite a bit of little birds (8?) hanging around in the trees that grow in the chicken run. They even scoop down and sometimes...
I understand that hens are sensitive to cedar wood shavings. I can see why; when i've had to work with that type of wood (nailing shingles, putting up a fence..), I feel that it's tough on my respiratory system.
Well, the thing is this: I have a lot of leftover fence boards from a job I had to...
Love this adolescents. I've heard Wyandottes are a bit wild and rebellious, and I concur. Still, they are fun and you can tell they wish they where outside already.
Fortunately they seem very friendly with the younger Australorp and the little Leghorn in the back.
Awesome girls! .Girls...
I'm gonna start deworming her today. I've read about cayanne pepper in the feed, garlic in the water and pumpkin seeds. I think I will try a combination or these natural remedies (and let the whole flock be part of it)
Should I be tougher and go get some deworming medicine at the pet and feed...
I'm getting very worried about our hen.
-9 month old sicilian buttercup
-eats and drinks normally
-still social but a bit less energetic
-still the boss (pecking order wise)
-wings have been droopy for about two weeks, one wing looking very thin and spinny
-picked her up today and she's very...
One of our chickens hasn't layed an egg in about 2 weeks, and today I was noticing some intense yellow (almost florecent) stains on the pine shavings inside the coop.
I'm getting kind of worried about her. She is our rock star Sicilian Buttercup. Her comb is looking a bit pale and she is not...
Ok, here's the deal.
We got two new chickens last week. A pair of gorgeous Plymouth Rocks. Right now I'm trying to keep them apart from our other chicken for a couple of weeks (i've heard over and over that one should quarentin new additions), so they've been hanging out inside one of those...
Hello.
I just got two new Hens for our flock. Two lovely Barred Rock girls about 8 months old!
They come from a small farm where this lady had about 20 chickens and needed to downsize. I'm guessing that her hens never got any shots when they where born (our hen came from a feed store and she...
We looove our Sicilian Buttercup!
I read before that they only lay abput 2 eggs a week. Ours gives us at least 5 a week! And she comes knocking on the door to let us know that she did. She is the most incredible survivor in our household.
I'll post pics soon!
I left home for a month and had a neighboor take care of my chickens. When i came back i find our RIR acting kind of strange and she has a couple of strange lumps inbetween her toes.
I'll try to take a picture and post it tomorrow, but has anyone heard of this?
Peace,
B.
Hello fellow chickeneers!
I thought I'd post a pic of the golden eggs that our Sicilian Butercup is laying! They are the most gorgeous (and delicious) eggs we have ever seen. Very nice light light brown (basically white), small and perfectly shaped.
I read that SB's only lay about 3 eggs a...
THings changed again.
The day after I started this thread i tried putting all the hens together at night in the same coop and they started beating the crap out of our little survivor, so I just got them back out into their own coop which my neighboor had built.
Well, that night, some coons...
One on my hens shat on another. Now she's walking around with crap en her neck.
What's a good method of cleaning feathers on a white ameraucana that hates being held?
hmm.

We had a catastrophy at home and lost two of our three hens. Fortunately a neighboor was getting rid of his three chickens (about the same age) and we decided to take them along with their coop.
Well, the new girls are quite the bullys with our surviving hen, and if it wasn't because she's a...
