    Coronation Sussex Thread!

In the group of 8 chicks that I just purchased, 2 were very white and the rest were somewhat yellow. One of the white ones was pretty weak and didn't survive a day and the other white was looking puny today, so I hope that I can help him pull through as I will be interested to see if there are...

    Coronation Sussex Thread!

I just purchased a few day old chicks on rarebreedauctions. I hatched several this summer but lost all of them to my own carelessness so I am hopeful that these will grow out nicely.

    The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I have several Orpington Roosters (I have a problem - I love roosters) and I would have to agree that they are not frequent crowers. Now sometimes, they will get into some sort of contest with one another and be a bit obnoxious but overall they are not a noise problem at all. I have a bantam...

Lame 2 year old Gander - Niacin?

She is now laying eggs almost every day and very concerned about where they are going. She won't voluntarily come out of her hutch, turning her back to me to stay in the "nest" so it looks like treatment will have to wait until she gets past this broodiness! Her eggs are likely not fertile so...

Lame 2 year old Gander - Niacin?

Well, it turns out that my gander is a goose! She laid an egg, which I think is a sign that her overall health is doing well and she is getting used to being at our place. The fact that she is sitting on the couch next to me is another clue that I have gotten! I have continued the B Complex...

Lame 2 year old Gander - Niacin?

So I have an update. I have continued to monitor him but felt like the vitamins that were in his water and food were not being consumed, so I began Vitamin B Complex injections. 1/2 cc daily. His feet seem to have a little more color as I have massaging his legs each evening and caring for...

Lame 2 year old Gander - Niacin?

Hello All: I recently had the opportunity to come upon a lame 2 year old gander who was in a gaggle of Sebastopol geese during breeding season. He and another male were the only breeders and he was getting beaten up pretty badly. At any rate, I offered to work with him to see if I could help...

    The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Birchen Gene - I am looking on rarebreedauctions.com from time to time and I have seen a sale of chicks that are advertised as being Birchen. Has anyone seen them? Are they true birchen? I hadn't believed that a flock of birchen existed in the US to date.

    Mystery Lemon Cuckoo Orpington Chick

She DEFINATELY is not alone these days. She is the leader of the pack of ornery pullets! Instead of being the outcast, she is the superstar!

    The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Changing the topic entirely, does any one have an idea on what "color/pattern" this chick might be? She hatched from a clutch of lemon cuckoos.

    Barred Holland breed of chickens

Hello all! I currently keep buff orpington chickens and barred buff (lemon cuckoo) chicks. I have become intensely interested in the barring pattern and began looking for the plain blacked barred orpington. In my search, I stumbled upon this forum and have a tremendous interest in assisting...

Comment by 'DaybreakOrps' in article 'Weird Chick Behavior'

Mine sometimes scuffle around in towels and blankets like that and fall asleep. My rooster ends up on his back from time to time on my bed asleep. It's kind of scary at first, but now its just funny.

Ended Contest #14 - Wet Poultry Contest for the 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

Bessie is our head rooster and has to look his best at all times, which means a full bath in the kitchen sink from time to time ............ and blowing dry so he doesn't catch a chill. He gets so sleepy during the blow drying that he finishes his nap on the master bed and his favorite...

    Mystery Lemon Cuckoo Orpington Chick

All I know is that it will be super interesting to see these guys hatch. I have 4 more eggs in the incubator that are likely not going to hatch, so I will check them tomorrow and see if there were any other dark colored chicks. In the pictures, the chick looks brown in the lighter parts which...

That was exactly my result when I googled Golden Cuckoo. The only thing that I have seen that is remotely related is the discussion of "blue lemon" or birchen but surely he would have advertised such a rarity or project.

    Mystery Lemon Cuckoo Orpington Chick

This is a color question. I ordered Lemon Cuckoo fertile eggs that were represented to be a Lemon Cuckoo Rooster over 5 hens, Lemon Cuckoo, Buff and Golden Cuckoo. Now I know how Lemon Cuckoo is defined and Buff is defined but when I read Golden Cuckoo I just presumed the breeder meant a...
