    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I just wanted to tell this group how much I've appreciated their advice, humor and information that I've received here. I have not been a steady contributor here, being a first-time chicken mama, but I have read and occasionally asked questions. I know that Mabel, Mattie, Sunny, Ruby, Scarlett...

My Australorp went broody again, so she's in time-out. This is her 3rd time. So, once again, we've pulled out the dog crate, put a perch in it, threw in some food and water, then put my crazy hen in. Hopefully, she won't have to stay in it long.

Well, I checked out my hen that had a "corn" on its toe. We've had it bandaged for the past week. After I took the bandage off, I was able to peel back the "corn" and then proceeded to dig out what looked like the yolk of a hard boiled egg. No solid mass, just hard boiled egg yolk type stuff. My...

Thanks....I guess DH and I will be making a decision on whether we do a soaking method or surgery.

If then, we are to do surgery, do we go in from the bottom where the hole is OR do we go in through the top where the "corn" is?

Maybe I should have posted this picture along with the other one. So, the top of the foot looks like that, while the bottom of the foot looks like this. Maybe this will help clear up whether it is a corn or whatever it is. I checked my other hens and none of them have this "hole" on the bottom...

That confused me, too. I thought bumblefoot was on the bottom of the foot and not the top. I will research that. Thank you!!! Anyone else have an opinion?

I know I've been more miss than hit recently but we're in the process of moving my father into assisted living, plus we are also moving from the Olympia area to the Hillsboro, OR area. So, life has been pretty hectic around here. I do have a question in need of some answers. My EE, Mabel, has...

I haven't been around for a while, though, I will drop by and just skim through the thread. I've been busy over at my daughter's house painting and painting and painting. She and her husband found out that he had to either relocate with his job or look for a new one. So, they are moving. They...

SeattleSelkie your babies are sooo cute. I'm not getting any this year but my daughter is. I'm hoping to go with her when she gets chicks next week. I guess I'll have to make up a bunch of excuses so that I can go over and visit her babies before they get moved out to the real chicken run.

Speaking of the Three Stooges....yes, there was Larry, Moe and Curly Joe, but, after Curly Joe, Shemp came along. And now you know the rest of the story. My hubby and I are in Washington DC at a Drug & Alcohol Conference. Fly in last night. The monuments were all lit up and so pretty to see as...

Chickielady....You could take some of those old tires and make a couple of tire swings for your flock. Bet they would enjoy that. You could even make one for yourself and swing with them.

Thanks so much for the link. Yes, her neck looks just like the picture. How long until those pin feathers open up and become real feathers? This being the first time for me...it's all so interesting. Thanks again, y'all.

Thanks y'all for the help in diagnosing my chicken that is molting. Never seen one when its molting before. So then, when a chicken is molting their feathers just break and then fall out? About how long should this last? I just love the color of her feathers, so I can't wait to see her new ones.

I love the fishing here in Washington...we travel maybe 15 minutes and we're at a lake. It's just so convenient to fish when there are just so many lakes to choose from. Okay, I have a chicken question for you. My girls are around 11 months old. It was my understanding that hens usually don't...

Congratulations!! We thought that with that last penalty that the Hawks had lost the game. Could not believe that the kicker and holder of the Vikings muffed that field goal. The SeaHawks had better get their act together if they want to advance any further.

Make your own - No waste - 5 gallon (25# feed) bucket feeder for about $3

I live outside of Seattle, so rainy weather is very common here. We have 6 chickens, so we didn't think we needed a 5 gallon feeder. We went with a 3 gallon, instead. It has done wonderfully. We keep it inside our little tractor, so that it is out of the weather. We have NOT had any trouble with...

Got 4 eggs (from my 6 girls) today and laid them on a card table we had set up in my father's living room downstairs. Well, my husband called me to come out and see something in the garage and my father followed us out. We finished with the garage and came back in the house to discover that I no...

The windstorm that came through Sunday night, I guess, really packed a powerful punch......blew my little portable chicken house right over on its side spilling the feed & water all over the place. My husband was able to right it and get the chickens all settles but they sure told him all about it.
