    Differentiating breeds

My babies came today! Hoover's Hatchery marked them for me. I thought I would share. I have 2 of their new sex link breeds, the Calico Princess and Sapphire Gem. I posted the ISA twice because they were such a stark difference in color. More so than the picture reveals.

I just hung up with Hoover's and they are going to mark them for me. Thanks for the idea!

    Differentiating breeds

Hmm, I don't know if I can or not. The first time I ever ordered from a company (don't remember who) they didn't mark, so I've never asked since. I will call them and ask though.

    Hoover Hatchery order :-)

Those breeds are new to Hoover's this year, so I doubt anyone has had any experience with them as of yet. I ordered 2 Sapphire and 2 Calicos today and should be here in 2 weeks. So, in about 6 months, I can tell you what they're like! Lol

I have a bloody hen as well, but I don't have any hatching eggs, I just have 4 hens. I havent seen her leave the nest in probably 5 days, but like others, i domt watch her 24/7, so im certain she leaves. Should I just leave her be and co sider this part of her personality?

    Newborn pasty butt?

This chick peeped 2 days ago but never unzipped. I helped it along by taking a little more shell from around the air sack then let it finish hatching itself, which it did about 30 minutes later. It is now 4 hours old and hasn't fluffed, but seems otherwise strong. It's rear end looks off to me...

    Early hatching and pip death

So, I did an eggtopsy. The first picture is the egg on the left from above. I really don't know why it died. It was fully developed and beak was exposed to air. Inner membrane was still moist. There was some green poop by his butt, but that was it. The 2nd chick was also fully developed and...

    Early hatching and pip death

My current settings are 101.5 and 54%. Should I expect any more to hatch since nothing has happened in the last 12 hours?

    Early hatching and pip death

Thank you. This only our 2nd time incubating eggs, so we're definitely still learning. I hope a few more hatch.

    Early hatching and pip death

I purchased 17 eggs from a local person and 16 developed. My temperature and humidity stayed near 100 and 55%. Sunday was day 18 and I took them off the turner. When I did, I found 2 of them had pipped. Of these, one I could see the beak.. It died. Monday, 5 hatched. Today 1 hatched. Tomorrow...

    Hen or roo

She is new to it too. So basically, it was the blind leading the blind. Lol

    Hen or roo

It's ok. I knew in my gut they were, but being new, I let her convince me otherwise. She was very nice and said she'd replace them.

    Hen or roo

I purchased 2 Copper marans that are supposed to be hens, but they sure don't look like it. They're 4 months old and do NOT crow. Tail feathers have a rounded shape, but those combs... both look just like the image
