    Chickens have roundworms!

While feeding my flock just right now, I saw some droppings with a very long, thin, noodle-like thing. After some research, it turned out to be roundworms. Some of my chickens have had diarrhea/looser droppings for some time, and I had been thinking of bringing in a sample to the vet so they...

URGENT | Hen with paralyzed leg!

I gave Bullet some plain yogurt and she seemed to like it, so that is good. I don't want to give her too much and worsen her diarrhea, though. Just right now, when I was checking in on Bullet, her foot was placed exactly and toes curled just like the B2 deficiency. I hope it's that and not...

URGENT | Hen with paralyzed leg!

The reason why I think Bullet has fowl pox is her comb: It is good to know that it is not Marek's or another contagious disease. Today, Bullet seems to be more active and alert. I am glad I put the electrolytes in her water. However, her most recent poop is not looking very good, maybe it is...

URGENT | Hen with paralyzed leg!

Yes, I have some Sav-a-Chick electrolytes that I put in her water several hours ago. I also mixed some of the electrolyte water in with some feed to moisten it, and Bullet ate some of it. I checked her over, and the lice seem to have all died. In about a week I will reapply (ProZap Poultry...

URGENT | Hen with paralyzed leg!

UPDATE: Bullet has LICE. I was feeding her and had a thought, so I checked under her hackle feathers, and there were some light orange colored lice. I will be going to the feed store soon (today or tomorrow) to get some things for Bullet.

URGENT | Hen with paralyzed leg!

While my family and I were gone on vacation, our neighbors were taking care of the chickens. When we got back (last night), they said that one of the chickens had a broken leg and wouldn't step on that leg. They were on vacation for a couple days as well, during which some family friends took...

Silkie rooster not able to mate with hens

Yep, same with my hens lol. After Milky gets off and looks all proud of what he has accomplished, the hens just stare at him all weird and confused. However, Milky does grab onto the head feathers of the respective hen.

Silkie rooster not able to mate with hens

My backyard flock consists of one silkie rooster (same size as a standard hen when counting the fluff :)), and 10 laying hens about 2.5 years old. When my rooster mounts them, he tends to "slip" on their backs towards the hen's neck. This makes it so that he cannot "do the deed." This spring...

    Reasons for porous eggs?

The first time I tried setting eggs under a broody (this spring), none of the eggs hatched or even developed. I remember when my mother and I were candeling eggs to check for fertility (I now know that is not possible without breaking them open), some of the eggs were very porous and some other...

    Quail coop details?

I have recently been debating whether or not to start keeping quail, because they seem like very enjoyable and fascinating creatures! Coturnix quail would be the type I would have because their egg/meat production is much better than the others. What are the most important construction details...

    Two different SLWs?

We got two SLWs (Silver Laced Wyandotte) (plus six other chicks) for our broody hen after none of the eggs hatched. For some reason, the two SLWs are very different from each other. #1 is a typical SLW minus the "single" comb. #2 has many white patches and a rose/cushion comb. #1: #2:
