This is our new baby. I know the picture isn’t the best. My husband calls it scissor bill. He/she has no issues eating, was the first one to hatch and is bigger than its brothers and sisters. While it looks worse than it did when it first hatched, he/she seems to be otherwise healthy and...
She/he was the first to hatch. Eats and drinks well & is my largest duckling. My husband doesn’t have much faith in its survival. I’ve never had this happen before. I think it’s precious.
I had a guinea keet hatch yesterday and this was attached to him. Once he finally separated himself from the egg it started bleeding. what is this??? I’ve nevee had this happen before
I purchased quail eggs and have them in an incubator. Today is day 17 and so far no signs of pips. I keep telling myself to not be impatient! I’ve never tried to incubate quail before but my 10 yr old is beside himself waiting for them to hatch. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
This is Sam. He/she is a 2 day old muscovy. If I had not had assistance and input from BYC members Sam would not be here. My inexperience in incubating & hatching eggs resulted in only one of 11 eggs hatching. Due to high humidity during incubation Sam was still in the shell with no...
This is by far the greatest learning/reference site that I have ever been on. No matter what we encounter and what situations or questions we have, we can find someone with a helpful answer. We are grateful to you and all of your members!!
We brought home three 8 wk old Muscovy babies yesterday. This is our first experience in raising ducks. Our intention is to integrate them into our existing flock of 27 chickens. Just as we did two years ago when we started out with two chicks, we are researching everything, learning as we go...
Can anyone tell me what breed this is? We got 17 chicks (hatcheries choice) and the list of possible breeds doesn't match with this coloring. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
I'm at a loss and any input or help I can get would be greatly appreciated. This is my first time raising chickens. I've had these hens since March and all of my hens have been laying consistently since 20 weeks of age. As of about 1 1/2 weeks ago, my australorp stopped laying. I just put...
I have several hens that are laying but three that have not started yet. I don't know if this could be a first egg? I've been feeding oyster shell and laying pellets? Any input would be appreciated.
My buff orpington chicks are a week old today. I have a heat lamp in the brooder but I thought the temp might be too warm in there because they looked like they were panting. I've moved the lamp and that solved the issue but I'm curious........how long should I use this heat lamp? Do they...
I have one astrolorp hen that has suffered with pasty butt since she was a week old. I'm not sure if there is anything else I can do to help her. She seems fine otherwise, just no feathers on her backside. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I have 4 hens that are the same age (22 ish weeks) and only one is laying. She started almost 2 weeks ago. I'm new to this so I'm not sure what to expect. Is it different for different breeds? I have 6 RIR hens that are approaching 18 weeks and should be laying soon? I've been giving them...
