Any idea on what breed this is? She did have a few black feathers on her hind end but another chicken plucked them out.

Wondering if this 4 month old barred rock mix is a hen or rooster. We are leaning more towards rooster but did have a chicken with similar traits turn out to be a hen. There has been no crowing.

What chicken's are the best for egg laying?

Wow thank you for all your information. We can get some pretty cold days/nights that can get below 0'F but usually doesn't stay that cold for to long. I keep lots of bedding (wood chips) in with the chickens. I'm hoping that's keeping them warm enough.

What chicken's are the best for egg laying?

Thank you. You pretty much reassured me of what I was already thinking. My son really wants to raise chicks too. We will most likely go that route. I will also look more into the breeds you mentioned.

What chicken's are the best for egg laying?

This Summer we added what we thought was a pullet to keep our one hen company only to find out it was a rooster. I have now found a home for the rooster and am looking into either getting chicks or pullets. What are the best breeds for eggs and to with stand cold winter nights? The hen we have...

    Thin Chicken...

I noticed one of our chickens is a little thin. I am suspecting worms maybe? We've had her since May and have never dewormed her. What is the best way to deworm chickens? I've read and heard many things. Is there something you can get a BigR (our feed stores are closed tomorrow) that works good...

My pullets a Roo!!! Now what?

I know people who have more than one rooster and don't seem to have any issues. They seem to have a pecking order just like the hens. I think you just have to watch out for the roosters getting to aggressive with each other.

My pullets a Roo!!! Now what?

How to get ducks more comfortable with you?

I give them lots of treats and they come by me but not real close to get the treats and they will wait to collect the yummies until I walk away. I will try this in their pen maybe. Otherwise the chickens and dogs will try to scarf up the treats.

    Duck eggs

We know it was the male because we saw him eating an egg. Also the female is currently molting...they both are actually. Thanks. I know you have helped me before and I really do mean thank you.

How to get ducks more comfortable with you?

We got our pair of ducks back in May. They aren't quite as friendly as we would like. We have to chase them to catch them but once we catch them they are fine. Even when they know I come to feed them they run away. Is there anyway to work with them to get them friendlier?
