Wondering if this 4 month old barred rock mix is a hen or rooster. We are leaning more towards rooster but did have a chicken with similar traits turn out to be a hen. There has been no crowing. View attachment 1060292 View attachment 1060293

Cockerel. Only males can have two copies of the barring gene, he also has a darker shade of red through the wing/shoulder area.

He looks sort of like a Bielefelder rooster. Mine was HUGE (about 30" tall) & very gentle. It was quite a sight to see a roo almost as large as a turkey!
