I know the brown one is a rooster because he crows all the time. I'm beginning to think I have two roosters. I'm a first time chicken owner so I have no idea.
I think I just picked up a pair of seramas. I'm not sure what I ultimately want as a breed selection. Plymouth barred rock are gorgeous, but so are most of the breeds I've seen for egg production.
So i finally have something funny to add.
I was telling my mother the other day that I wanted chickens.
Me: I think I'm going to get a silkie chicken.
Mom: You're a city girl that lives in a city you cant have chickens.
Me: City ordiance says I can have up to 4 but no roosters.
Mom: City...
I live in st Petersburg now but grew up in Punta gorda. I've lived here since 09 and Tampa before that so I'm more used to dogs and cars than chickens. I lived in NE GA for a short stint but that was in a cul-de-sac.
Also at Fair, someone thought all chickens with combs are roosters. There was many exclamations of "LOOK! It's the rooster that layed an egg!" that day.
I didn't know this when I first started researching raising chickens. Never seen one up close let alone that hens had combs.
