I have a Spitzhauben that is about 9 months old. She has never laid a single egg. We have just a small backyard flock of two Wyandottes, a Barnevelder, and the Spitzhauben. The Barnevelder and Spitzy were picked up at the same time and are about the same age (maybe hatched a few days apart) the...
Our first dark brown egg from our Barnevelder. She did good. We had to really work with the ceramic eggs with our Wyandottes to get them to use the nesting box. My Bernie was a natural, beautiful clean first egg nestled gently with the ceramic egg in the nesting box. I'm so proud of her. She...
I have two hens that I got from Baxter barn. No complaints other than they are extremely skittish from lack of handling. We purchased them at almost 20wks old each. We wanted pullets close to the same age as our existing flock, so we went with some of the oldest chickens they had. We needed to...
20 weeks exactly and my Silverlaced Wyandotte "Flo" laid her first egg today.
She laid it right where she roosts for the night so it was pretty nasty. I know a lot of people don't recommend rinsing the eggs off, but the poo was way too gross. Hopefully we can get them into their nesting boxes...
Did your dog ingest all of this yesterday? After two hours of ingesting anything, inducing vomiting will do nothing to eliminate any toxins. He needs to go to a vet if he is showing signs of poisoning.
So I know this thread is a few months old now, but what was the final determination? Did you end up with a roo or a pullet?
I have an 8-9 week old that from day to day I change my mind over. Yesterday I thought roo, today she's my little baby girl... My Houdan was pretty easy with giant red...
In comparison to other Wyandottes are they typically much larger? I have a slw and my cw, and my cw is nearly twice the size of my slw, both are16 weeks.
We talked to our neighbors they're being super cool. They say they love them and haven't heard them except when they go out to smoke. They're being extremely supportive. We'll rehome him (or both if the polish is a roo too) but for now they're pretty bonded and can't mix with the big girls yet...
I have a Silverlaced and a columbian Wyandotte, both pullets. They are now 16 weeks, have just started showing signs of waddles and barely a hint of a comb. I'd say you have a roo there.
Well, turns out the Houdan (white head) is definitely a roo.
He was caught crowing today by both my husband and I.
Not sure about the Polish yet.
It's possible that they are both Roo's.
My husband thinks the white head (Houdan) is a girly and the Silverlaced Polish is a male... I'm thinking the opposite or both roo's.
Someone started to try to crow this morning about 6 am. Which means the roo will be rehomed as soon as we can figure out who is doing it. GoPro in the coop until...
We picked these two up from the Co-Op as day olds. Both strait run. We have no idea what we have. They should be about 8weeks now. I'm not sure if the video link will work. What do you think pullets or roo's?
I'm in Washington too. I just got two chicks, now a month old. One a mottled Houdan and the other a silver laced polish. They came to me as pure bred but neither have 5-toes, is this common? I was expecting the breed specific appearance as well. I'm not sure if they are pullet or roo as we...
Thanks for responding. We kept them indoors for a total of 4weeks and now assume they were probably at least a week old when we picked them up. Now they're pretty fat and happy girls in their little coop outside. Hubby wasn't the biggest fan of having them in the house as they started getting...
I'm outside of Seattle and since its summer temps have been pretty warm. We have a couple day olds, now almost a week. We've been keeping them in a little Rubbermaid box with bedding and a heat lamp, indoors. My husband wands to keep them outside but we have a lot of predators including raccoons...
