    Cornish X Droppings

They definitely cap over the ground/bedding, in no time. I do deep bedding, stirring every day and adding 1/2 to 3/4" of new shavings, and that barely keeps up. I try to keep my brooder smelling like granola bars.

    Dark Meat?

Freedom rangers have a fair amount of dark meat in comparison to CX (the least amount). I wouldn't say they are the highest dark meat content, but they grow quickly and do very well in most pastured conditions.

    We want to raise capons

Why would you caponize and then slaughter at 12 weeks? Its like slaughtering a CX at 32 days. Not going to get much out of it. Normally you'd let them run around for 24+ weeks and get HUGE

    Processing laws in FL?

So really, I would just ignore the whole "legally" part of this. Couple of birds, sold prior to the slaughter, that's a pet transaction. Here is the Florida law The Law. Florida has adopted an Animal and Animal Production Inspection and Labeling Act that requires the inspection of...

How do you sell chickens for meat?

Sell the bird while it is still alive, and it is a pet transaction. Butcher the bird for the new pet owner for free. Profit.

    Electric Netting from Premier

I use it, but not for confinement. Its to keep predators out. I have a tractor for confinement. BTW, once you do CXs on pasture you will never go back. The manure is spread out, the flies cannot use it, the stench is less....

    Breeding meat chickens

I say do it. What's this all about if not for learning? Plus you can leave your meat "on the hoof" and not have to freeze it.

finishing food for soon-to-be meat roosters?

Chickens are omnivores, finish them on what you started them on. I prefer to withhold food 24 hours prior to processing to keep the guts clean.

    Electrocution?

12V will not kill the bird. Plus it will stop their heart and you won't get a good bleed out, cut the artery to the brain.

    dispatching last years hens...

you get about 2 years of good production from a hen. If you want to cull them, I would put them in a roasting pan at 250 for a few hours. Then pick the meat for some good pulled chicken to vacpak and freeze.

    Few questions regarding roos

They are interested in the hens, but probably don't know why at this point. I have noticed with young roosters, if anyone gets sqwacking too much they start fighting. Eventually they start prancing and dancing around, trying to attract the hens, but at first they just beat them up. Eat...
