I just got back from being away a week to visit my hubby (he's working up by Swan Hills, AB). I took Lulu my lame, part-time house chicken as she always travels with me. The rest stay home in the care of a neighbour. Before I left last week, one had a real pale comb and it was quite droopy...

I just had to share my day. I had lunch with a friend that I went to elementary school with and was out of contact for over 40 years yesterday. We walked to school together for years as we lived only 2 blocks apart then after grade 9 my family moved away and hers moved away after grade 10...

I got the recipe from my mother and grandmother so decided to pass it on. Enjoy.
I made Placinta / Elephant Ears / fried dough - what ever you call it - I made it, we ate it. We ususlly eat it with sugar but you can you preserves, piefilling, cinnamon, etc.

I was in White Rock, BC visiting my SIL and came across this green wall on their library. The pics don't do it justice and I hope to visit again when everything is growing. If you are in the area check it out - it's a real eye-opener.

I submitted a comment about chickens to Mother Earth Enews and was asked if they could publish it in their magazine. This month, April/May 2011 on page 102 - There it is in black and white! Never been in a magazine before! Woohoo!
My dad turned 80 so we went to Saskatoon for his birthday. Lulu, our lame part-time house chicken came along because it was too cold to leave her outside. We stopped at Vegreville to show her the giant egg but it was cold and windy so she was not impressed.
