The coyote decoy isn't a bad idea. Provided coyotes are not a problem. The owl decoy someone suggested is not a super good idea. I used to tech for the forest service surveying goshawks. Some species of hawks are captured using live owls. A hawk will fly right into a net if it thinks an owl is...
The hatch rate was pretty low, it was my first time incubating. I probably needed to turn my eggs a lot more, they went 4 days longer than they were supposed to. I'm just glad I got a group at all. I think next time I will try an automatic egg turner.
I have 7 now, the hatch was spread out quite a bit, still incubating the rest of the eggs just in case. One is in kinda bad shape, I helped it out of it had been struggling all day. But 6 healthy and a little sickly. Fortunately they do look like they are different color varietys.
I have been incubating button quail for 20 days now. I read they are supposed to hatch around day 16. Today 5 hatched, and 2 have cracked their shell. The ones with cracked shells have been that way for around 8 hours. When do you start intervening with your eggs?
Thanks, I have actually thought about the honey thing. I think it is actually pretty popular where I'm at, I know several people that keep bees. I was mostly leery of the startup costs. The place I moved into was previously a sheep farm, I converted the sheering shed into a coup with an outdoor...
I bought a place in Missouri last August that is 2 acres. I have a career and steady income, but my wife stays home with our two daughters. Is there any side money to be had in raising chickens, rabbits, (maybe ducks or geese) on a 2 acre farm, or is it mostly just for fun and food? Are there...
That is good to hear, so if I choose some fatty chickens that don't fly super well in the first place they probably won't clear it? Thanks for the info
I'm just finishing up the run I built around the old shed and putting nesting boxes in. I ordered some hatchlings from Efowl and am pretty excited about it (not as much as my kids). We got the incubator because we were hoping to hatch some of our own eventually, and we were planning on hatching...
