Yeah I had a feeling he was full of it, my father thinks I'm an idiot and this guy is one of his good friends so they love to "prove me wrong"...I needed some expert advice. So thank you!!!
After I posted this, I'm thinking he's full of it because how is it even possible?? Then I wondered if maybe they were laying because of being meat birds. But that didn't even really make sense. But thank you for the insight! I thought maybe I was nuts. ;P
I don't have pictures right this moment, I'll try to get some.
My mother randomly purchased 5 birds from Tractor Supply for my brother (after I warned her not to until she did some research) well, I called and asked Tractor Supply what types of chickens they could have been. Options were 1...
Yeah we are definitely prepped for the mess. Lol
Oh yeah, she was separated as soon as we saw she was getting picked on. We put her in their old brooder inside the new coop, so they can't get to her but she's not alone. :)
So excited to share pictures of our coop, though I didn't think to get a picture of the outside until just now. haha! Will post that tomorrow. The roost is actually something our daughter found at a lake, she wanted then to have it.
**We do have one little girl that appears to be getting...
I can't believe all the stuff I've learned here. My family and friends keep saying, "they're just chickens, you'll be fine and they'll be fine." Nooooo they aren't "just chickens". Lol. I love them to pieces!! And they really are becoming part of the family. Lol.
Oh good!!! I was seriously panicking for a minute there. Not that it would matter too much because I love them all so much but still....lol. I am curious, 2 of them seem to have shorter feathers than the rest (on the wings and booty), maybe I can get a better picture later. Is that just an...
So, after reading way too many articles last night, I started to question my "girls". First, do they look like a true Isa brown? Second, do they appear to be pullets? And last, any idea on age? I was under the impression that they are a week and 2 days as of today. But...now I'm starting to...
Oh they did "purr" and it melted my heart! Soooooo sweet!
It doesn't help that I may be a bit of a micromanager (aka control freak) this is a good lesson for me. They are going to be my guide from now on.
Thank you again!! I really appreciate your quick replies!
It really is a new world for them!! And this whole thing is a new world for me as well! I grew up on a small dairy farm but I was always scared of the chickens. Lol When my husband suggested getting chickens, I refused. Haha. I was mostly against it until we went and picked them up. Lol. Since...
@Blooie Ooooooooh my gooooodnesss!!!! It worked!!! Thank you so much! I never considered that it might be too warm or to try it with the lights out!! I don't have the numbers on my heating pad, I did turn it down to medium though. They are all snuggled in and out for the night (I hope!)...
So these are our first chicks, I made the MHP last night. They have not been inside it. I came up to check them because it's getting dark and I figured they would be settling for the night. They were all huddled in a corner. Under the MHP it's 86 + degrees and ambient temp upstairs is 76. I...
Awesome!!! I'll get it going today!! I did pick up some chick grit last week after doing research because I wanted to have it on hand just in case we needed it. :)
We moved our chickies into their new brooder with the MHP and they LOVE it!! (And they slept last night! lol) Pics below!
They are a week + 1 day old and we have been reading a lot about sprouting grains for them. More as a treat than a meal replacement. I have organic chia and organic flax...
