Really noisy chick driving me crazy ‍♀️

Are chicks noisier when they are hatched and raised by a hen? We bought a naked neck hen and her chick at a bird auction and the chick literally doesn’t shut up :barnie it’s driving me insane!! The only time it quietens down a bit is when the hen sits on it but the hen only sits on it if I’m...

    Angry rooster HELPPPPP

We have a pretty dominant angry rooster, he’s still young (approx 8weeks), he’s the only rooster in a flock with 5 hens. Whenever we enter the run to open the coop he chases and attacks us & he has definitely left his mark. His bite HURTS. Feeding and watering is almost becoming impossible and...

We have our very first egg

We got our very first chicken egg this morning, my 4 year old was buzzing. She’s been waiting for an egg since we first got our chicks & would ask every morning if there was any eggs yet. The hen was one of our smaller ones so didn’t expect her to be 1st. She wasn’t impressed when we took the...

When to remove hatchlings from the incubator?

How long do you leave your quail hatchlings before removing from the incubator? We have 48 eggs in the incubator, we are on day 18 and we had 4 hatch late last night and another 4 this morning. Now I know your not meant to open the incubator until they are all finished hatching but I’m...

Can my quail go outside now?

My courtunix quail are approx 3 weeks old (if they were sold to us at 1 day old like advertised but I’m thinking they were older) they are all now flying and have their adult feathers. Does that mean they are ready to go outside? They are getting difficult to feed & water as their growers pen...

Had a power cut while I wasn’t home

:hitSo yesterday at some point we had a power cut and I wasn’t home. It was off for long enough as we lost a few quail chicks :hit and I’m guessing we have also lost all 48 eggs in the incubator. As when I got home and restarted it, it was only on 17•c :hitthey were only on day 5 too ‍♀️

What substrate for an outdoor quail run?

What substrate does everyone used for their outdoor quail run? Inside the coop I will be using wood shavings or straw. Our outdoor chicken run will be either bark chips or sand (undecided) But what do quail like? We have 30 chicks currently in the brooder as well as 48 eggs in the incubator...

Noisy quail or is something wrong?

We have 30x day old cortunix quails. 1 of them has not stopped chirping since it hatched whereas all the others are happily into a ‘routine’ of eat/drink/poop/sleep and are all pretty quiet, they’ve spent 90% of the time since they hatched under the heat plate. This 1 seems to be calling out...

Chicken & quail in the same garden?

I’ve already got chicken, I’ve been reading up about quail. Getting very mixed reviews about keeping them, some are saying chicken and quail can live in the same enclosure and some are saying no due to different diets/disease etc so I’m going with not keeping them in the same enclosure. Now my...

Need a bigger indoor brooder, ideas?

We have 5 polish chicks (although I think 2 might be miniature bantams) & 6 sexlink chicks, the polish are roughly 5 weeks old and the sexlinks are roughly 3/4 weeks. They are in separate brooders but mix together if they are roaming the front room. I know your not meant to mix different age...

HELP!!! Attempting to build my own coop

As the title suggests really, I’ve got 5 chicks in the brooder, never had chickens before (I hatched 2 ducks before but only ever did the ‘indoor’ stage until they went to my step-dads friends farm) I moved house last year and now have an ok sized garden. We originally built a really long...

First time egg hatcher! Need help!

I currently have 4 eggs in the incubator. We are on day 7, I've just candled them.... 2 eggs I can quite clearly see the red veins, 1 seems to be a floating yolk (should I dump this one?) and the 4th one all I can see is a dark patch at the back of the egg but I can't work anything out if I...
