    A good chicken breed?

Hi there, I personally love any variety of Sussex. They are moderate layers (260-280 eggs per year), but they are the most docile and loving chickens getting around. (In my opinion). I am currently raising some silver Sussex, and a few australorps. my australorp (Pigs) has the most personality...

Official BYC POLL: Chicken Keeping - Easier, same or harder than dogs/cats?

I personally can say that chickens are easier to to care for than dogs. This is mainly due to the fact that dogs and cats can have rather large vet bills where as chickens don't. Chickens are also just generally easier to maintain than dogs.

I picked her up to investigate further and it seems that she has snot coming out of her nostril. Could this just be a cold? Also her bubble just disappeared. Thanks...

    What to feed my Flock

Hi there, I have been raising chickens for roughly about 2 years now. However, during this period of 2 years, i have found it incredibly hard to find treats and scraps that my chickens actually like. As of right now, my flock loves warm oats, natural greek yogurt, veggies (lettuce), and i...

In the News: Backyard Chickens Dangerous!

I think that this article is abnoxious and is simply an attempt to turn people away from raising chickens. Chickens are lovely animals that are so harmless, and generally carry no diseases.

    What sex/breed is this?

Hi there, Is it rather large for 9 weeks? If so, I would say that it could most likely be a Cornish cross or a White rock. :) Hope this helps

What breeds do I have? All girls. ☺️

Hi there, I would wait until they are at least three weeks old before you start to determine what breed they are as it is very hard to tell what breed a chick is when they are only a few days old.

Getting chick to use nesting box

Hi dinkbradders, Generally when it comes to chickens and nesting boxes, it is usually 4 chickens to one nesting box. So it seems that you have more than one nesting box, which means that you have the correct number. However, when it comes to chickens laying in the nesting box, I have found...

    people harassing my chickens

Hi ChickenMorals, i practically agree with everything that the other members are saying, But, i would like to outline some other dangers: 1. Chickens and stupid boys do not mix. Teenagers, (i'm assuming you are in high school), are known for the abuse of animals as they find it amusing. 2...
