    hen cannot balance

I trim their nails for their sake, not mine. And no, they are not Muscovy. I keep rare and endangered breeds that are listed with the Livestock Conservancy. Duck nails will not always grow straight and they will not always self trim. It really depends upon what ground you keep them on and how...

With a vet prescribed regime. First an otic flush, then an antibacterial drop. Plus doxycycline oral antibiotic and Meloxicam anti-inflammatory pain relief. I am lucky to have access to an exotic and avian vet 😁

Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

:frow I'm still here! Currently I have an ageing population of duckers and so have my hands full with quite a few of them requiring twice daily medication 😵‍💫 other than that life is just the same on the farm as it has been for the last 8 years LOL. Wake up, go do duck chores, go to work, come...

    hen cannot balance

I have three ducks with ear infections. Then I have three additional ducks with a Mite infestation in their ears. So yes, sadly, ear issues are definitely a thing for ducks. Two of my ducks have very narrow ear canals, they are elderly ducks, and because of this narrow canal their ear does not...

    Duck can't walk suddenly, Help!

This happened to my Cayuga girl. I believe it was due to a pinched nerve. I massaged her abdomen and hips each day and kept a close eye on her. She came good within 4 days. She did lay an egg by then, so I assumed it was that causing pressure in a pelvic nerve.

Toys for ducks? Entertainment for me! What do your ducks play with?

My ducks like to play with bells! I have various wind chimes / bells, parrot toys hanging around their pens and they're always tugging on and ringing them 😁

    Best interest for duck?

2 months is long enough for her to have adapted to her new living arrangements so I think if she looks to be happy up with you guys you can keep her with you. But I also think it's best to get her a friend to hang out with for the times you are not around. If you were to put her back with the...

Supplementing my ducks feed for winter - namely with Honey.

Yes that's what I thought, it would need to sit for a while for mold to start. And I don't let food sit for more than 24hrs. It's checked twice per day and refreshed accordingly 😊

Supplementing my ducks feed for winter - namely with Honey.

Valuable perspectives, thank you 416bigbore. Interestingly molasses is a regular daily additive for some poultry breeders over here. I might have to quiz them in more detail, meantime giving only the occasional small dose to my ducks. Thanks for replying 😊

Supplementing my ducks feed for winter - namely with Honey.

Hey hey duck peeps :jumpy It's winter here in Western Australia, and I'm wondering if I can dissolve honey into my ducks soaked grains? The reason I wonder about honey is that I hear a lot of people use molasses, we do for our sheep, but as we are also beekeepers I'm wondering if I could use...
