I appreciate your help so much. First time using an incubator.. second chick hatched and this is her vent area… is this normal looking? I have a broody hatching chicks outside now and I was going to put them under her once they are dry. They’re all hatching at the same time.
The chick will not stay in the cup and he’s dragging the sack all around the incubator spreading blood and yolk. There are a lot of veins on the sack. Do you think I need to cull this chick? I don’t want to keep opening the incubator up while the others are hatching.. any advice? Thanks so much.
I now have her in a cup with a paper towel. She goes nuts whenever she hears one of the others peeling through the shell. Hopefully I’m doing this correctly.
I have 5 eggs under a broody and 8 in an incubator. Both batches started hatching last night. Is it safe to move the new chicks from incubator to under broody with the others when they have finished hatching? She’s a great mom and it takes a lot of the work off me.
First time with this problem. He hatched in the middle of the night and the others haven’t even pipped. Do you think it’s too large to absorb? Do I leave him be?
This is my first time hatching eggs period, and I’m using a broody to do it. She’s been great. Today is Day 21 and when I peeked in I saw this. It’s been about 5 hours with no real change. It’s peeping and moving and breathing. Does this look normal?
I have an Ameracauna that I got late February and still no egg? Is this normal? I stopped them from free ranging for a week to see if she could be hiding something but she isn't. She is definitely a hen and she's been squatting for months now.... is it possible for some hens to never lay?
My cuckoo maran has been laying consistently (in the poop box) for about a month now. A few days ago I noticed she sat on her egg for 3.5 hours. Finally I picked her up and took her egg and set her outside the coop. Every day since she has been returning to the spot and sitting for hours without...
Ran it under water, smelled it, scratched it, no aroma whatsoever. My initial thought was that it was poop or something similar but it was a reddish color and the consistency was more of a hard powder. Scratches off but doesn't rinse off easily. No smell. I ended up throwing it away and haven't...
Wow I'm surprised they aren't laying yet! Mine are 19 weeks and four of the ten are laying. I think the heat can affect them. Although it has been upper 90's here and it hasn't slowed mine down. I get four a day like clockwork. What kind of chickens do you have?
