Soooooo... I've decided to vaccinate my flock. I am aware that Florida has struggled with Newcastle and It seems logical after weighing pros and cons to just vaccinate. I'm trying to follow a reasonable vaccine schedule, and will be including Mareks and Fowl Pox, and MG.
My goal is to be able...
Wow, very neat information... I'll take a picture of my current repairs. Unfortunately the 2 I have waxed, are OLIVE and the dark pigment is impossible to penetrate with light. No seeping or weeping of fluid, and no smell this far, I am hoping to make it to lockdown without explosions. I can't...
When I first started buying shipped eggs that was exactly my first thought. I was furious that someone had actually wrapped them in bubble wrap. But after experience its quite the opposite. My newspaper, tissue paper, and even paper towel wrapped egg shipments are hardest to hatch regardless of...
Just curious, as I've done repairs myself with 50/50 success. Now I again currently have 2 eggs at the same time that were trampled by my roo (who thought he belonged in the nest box) shortly after being laid. No seepage, I wouldn't save seeping eggs. They're all waxed and in the bator. Just...
Though I've never used Brinsea bators. I haven't found any pther brand incubators that last beyond 2 years, and I stay far away from Little Giant ones. As far as affordable, I'd recommend the Farm Innovators, and the Off brand HDD Chinese ones (ebay).
With my FI circulated air and turner I got...
The flock got over whatever it was. I only have a few (less than 10% of my flock-) with very minor sinus symptoms tapering off.
Also, laying doesn't seem to be impacted. No marked or misshapen eggs. No decrease in production. I have a fickle maran-americauana EE who is laying olive green eggs...
I'm in Florida, and the state poultry vet mentioned the illness being related to the weather because we did around the time of onset have quite extreme lows for our area. Like I think we actually had a little freeze spell. Normally even now we have 80s-90s.
Anyway when I questioned the...
Hi everyone, I'm always asking lots of questions these days. I hope y'all don't mind. So, I have 40 babies in bator. and half are super special to me.
I'm working with a FI Circulated Bator (I don't remember Model# bought from Rural King). Anyways my bator has been pretty decent for the most...
Update: Necropsy came back with no positive results for any upper respiratory illness or disease. So my hen was an anomaly apparently. I contacted the lab and explained I am deeply distressed because the hen I submitted didn't yield any results as to what was going around my flock. I inquired on...
Update again, the roos are back to their normal self they seem. Although one - the one it hit really bad, is still less active than usual but still active. He is crowing again. Seems fine but obviously recovering.
My hen, she seemed like she was turning the curve and doing much much better...
Thanks.
Morning Update. My hen made it through the night. I don't think she's worse but can't tell that she's doing better yet. I've freshened her bedding, and she has opened her eyes for very brief periods. She sleeps constantly but she has made small drinking attempts and picked a bite or...
Thanks again for the information above. I called the FL Dept of Ag Diagnostic Lab and will be either driving there tomorrow with a few of my birds for testing and euth. Lab test is free for birds on their way out. And if they don't make it over night, I'll be sending in for necropsy.
Thanks, I'm going to look into all of that.
Sadly, I'm leaning towards cull of all infected birds. Which is heartbreaking at the very least. I don't want to see my flock go, but also don't want to live with infectious disease forever as a chicken mom. If it's coryza I don't think they make a...
I have a hen that smells like that when I pick her up also, she's the only one. But she's currently got a runny nose (some kind of URI) and the mix of whatever she was eating stuck to her beak so I'm sure its a combination of things for my lady. Is yours sick or possibly getting sick? Has she...
Thanks for responding. I know that looking down the throat isn't a definitive for ruling out gape worms. Please allow me to clarify, I examined my affected birds and they didn't show signs of worms in droppings or in their throats. Their symptoms lead me to believe they are suffering with either...
