They are 12 weeks this week. i also think the grey one is a female, she is always hiding under the black one and is more shy and calm. The black one in the other hand is super tame and jumping on my back and chilling there.
i would like tips for building cold climate coop. we are talking -30 degrees celsius (-22 degrees Fahrenheit for you from the US ). i was thinking if it is possible to convert a playhouse to a winter coop. we also have some room in a shed that could be possibly converted to a coop. i would like...
Hi guys! i have currently 3 silkies who are 3 weeks old. i have let them run outside almost every day for a couple of hours and then bring them inside back to their brooder. Today after they came inside i noticed one of the chicks scratching its tail and feet and screaming. the others are not...
okey, thanks for your help! there is only pipped as of right now and she is taking her time so i have plenty of time to think about this. i read somewhere about that blowdrying thing, i think it should work. and thank you for the welcome :hugs
Its one of those cheap chinese 7 egg incubators, some people have problems hatching with that but its working for me:) i will look into that thread. What you think abou the blow drying thing ?
I know you are supposed to keep the chicks in the incubator until they are dry, but as my incubator is so small and there is barely room to move i would like to know if its okey to move them to the brooder straight away. Maybe even blow dry them just in case?
i dont know if they sell smaller ones at the shop near me. i have the water well filled up and a wet piece of paper in there. there is no condensation on the incubator but i think that is because of the fan, right ?
I have a hygrometer/temperature meter but the part that measures the humidity is in the unit itself and the sensor that measures the temperature i can but in my incubator. i can't fit the unit in my tiny incubator so i cannot measure humidity and i started lockdown today. what should i do ?
yeah you are right i live in a very cold location, but in the summer its hot and since it has rained two days in a row its rather humid in here. And i am hatching silkies. i could try the rice thing, but i think it wont work because the whole house is like a rainforest.
Yeah. that's the thing. i'm not even putting any water in. i decided to go with the dry method when i started incubating these. The humidity was fine (around 45%) until it started raining and it climbed up to 62%. but i put a fan in the room to see if that helps and it has gone down to 60% now...
I have a question about humidity. I am currently hatching some silkies and i've had a good 40-50% humidity, but since it has rained like two days where i live, the humidity has risen to around 60%, will this be a problem since i am only at day 13.
