    Chicken lice!

Yes thank you! I am waiting until next weekend when my husband is home from a work trip so he can give me a hand with it. Lord I hope this doesn't become a constant thing. Maybe I can find some info on the seasonal pests in my area.

    Chicken lice!

Thank you, I know poultry is chicken lol I did not understand the directions and wanted to be sure before I started spraying a chemical all over them. I figured there might be a different ratio between spraying the chicken and spraying the coop. I will have to check their heads. I didn't know...

    Chicken lice!

Thank you. Now this does not say I can treat the chickens with it. Do I have to dilute it more? Or would one spray on them be ok?

    Chicken lice!

Thank you everyone! Going to look into the Permethrin. Hope I didn't hurt my birds too much by using the DE once a week the past month. I looked into using it before I started but OBVIOUSLY my research was not thorough enough.

    Chicken lice!

So I have been battling this for over a month now! Using DE. I need something that can kill the lice eggs because I cannot win the battle using DE anymore. There's very few with lice on them now, but those darn lice eggs are still there! Any recommendations?

    Hen with her tail down

There's no way to tell for sure, but the tail held low often signals a hen is in pain. Couple that with the suspiciously large eggs, and you might suspect she's laving problems passing overly large eggs. I have a couple of hens who have this problem, but I haven't found a solution. Sometimes...

    Hen with her tail down

Hey everyone! So I noticed yesterday one of my hens walking around with her tail down! She's eating and drinking normal. Haven't been able to catch what her poo looks like. But I have not noticed anything out of the ordinary laying around. I am pretty sure she's been laying, I'm getting the...

Noticed Hen with bare vent area

Thank you! I checked her this morning. No bugs, no bleeding or irritation. There was some stuff on some of her feathers that I am assuming is from the rooster. It was hard on feathers it was stuck to. White and actually looked like styrofoam. I watch the birds most of the day because they free...

Noticed Hen with bare vent area

I just noticed this afternoon that one of my hens vent looked more bare than usual! Did not look red or swollen. And I have not checked for lice/mites yet. (Waiting for her to roost tonight.) could this just be from the rooster mating with her? He's got 10 girls. Any input would be appreciated...

Sick or not?! Head scrunched but tail is up!!

Yes she seemed normal yesterday! I hope that was her problem. I am keeping a close eye on them all now. Yesterday and today I am noticing a lot of pruning/itching. I will attempt a more thorough search but I did check their vents for lice. I didn't notice anything. Could this be a springtime...

Sick or not?! Head scrunched but tail is up!!

Thank you! I checked her out. No signs of injuries and she looks completely normal. No lice near her vent. Could this have something to do with her starting to lay? After my post last night I went to go lock everyone up and I notice a soft shell egg on the ground around where she had been...

Sick or not?! Head scrunched but tail is up!!

Hello fellow chicken lovers! I have never posted here before, but come to this site often and everyone seems awesome with feedback. So my issue is one of my RIR, she's about 19 weeks old and just noticed her standing with her head hunched in and not really moving! When I walked up to her she...
