The top two look like my pullets, which are Red Star hens. They are a cross btwn those island red and 'whatever'. I don't know the dark one, but if it has feathers on its feet, it's probably a Silky...couldn't tell u which kind. Lol hers a pick of my pullets at 2 weeks, and now at 5 weeks[/IMG]
Just saw ur feed question. I'll use pellets, corn and s'times a mash. The trough will b metal with high sides and seperation bars, so sitting and waste will b minimized.....I hope.
Thx Ol Grey Mare! Originally I was going to use a poop pan. But the coop is on the ground and I've decided to do the deep litter method, in the coop and run.
I have RA and bending and cleaning is difficult. The idea of once a month or even just a few times a year cleaning is a no brainer! Lol
I plan on using a trough to feed, inside the coop. Can it go under the nesting boxes? We built our own coop, and it is smaller than we planned, so space is a premium!
My chicks are about 41/2-5 weeks old, starting to feather out nicely. Boy do they want to fly and use those wings!
Although the coop will have a run attached,f or when we're not home, I was planning to 'free' range', in a large fenced in area, about 36x24. My greenhouse and bees are also there...
I'm building my coop now. I read s'where (forget where, so I can't refer to it! Lol), about having an organic floor and run.
Basically build up organic matter, on a dirt floor, from my compost piles, about 6" deep.
The chicks should scratch away and I just keep adding litter as needed.

I have had adult chickens before (20 yrs ago), but never chicks. I Know I have 3 Red Sex (I prefer Red Star, lol), but the other 3 were not labeled, Help!! I think they are 4 weeks old?? 2 of the cream colored ones are much smaller, clearly picked on before I got them. I have to clean 'Babys'...
