2 week old chick, victim of chicken attack (I think), missing lots of skin

Final update on the little Barred Rock that was injured. I used a cat carrier with some old toweling in the bottom as chickie hospital, and put heating pad under the back third of the carrier to help her stay warm. I put Vetericyn everywhere the skin was missing. I made mash with some chick...

2 week old chick, victim of chicken attack (I think), missing lots of skin

I apologize, I thought I sent a thank you the same day you replied. The chick is healing well, and is back with the other chicks, doing chick things. Thanks so much!

2 week old chick, victim of chicken attack (I think), missing lots of skin

This happened yesterday afternoon sometime, and treatment started within an hour or two (I believe) of injury. Injuries between wings on back, 'shoulder' of left wing and either side of the base of the tail. Skin completely gone in those area, can see muscle. No apparent puncture wounds...

Designing and Building my Fisrt Coop and run, in So. Cal.

Thanks for the feedback on the leaves, aart. Tree chippings aren't hard to come by around here, and I can get them for free. Or, I can rent a chipper/shredder and chip my own, plenty of material around here. The entire enclosed area is 12x12, with a 6x6 henhouse. The chickens are only closed...

    My First Flock

These last 2 don't have names just yet. They're older than SweetPea and Petunia, and a little bigger (older?) than Phlax. They'll get their names soon. This is Reese, one of our dogs learning to hang out with the chickens. She thinks chickens are wonderful. They make chicken poop! Thanks for...

    My First Flock

SweetPea She is the bottom of the pecking order, but she is a sweet little bird. When one of the older hens is dust bathing, she'll get right in there next to them, and shove her head under their feathers. Its like she's not ready to grow up yet. Petunia Petunia and SweetPea hang out...

    My First Flock

Daisy Mae The ringleader of the production layer crosses. She'd like to be head hen, but will settle for #2. (she and Phlax don't usually go head to head, but I don't think this contest is settled yet) She's usually the first to try something new, and is all most always at my feet if I'm in the...

    My First Flock

Flora, the oldest EE None of the other girls mess with Flora, and she doesn't go out of her way to harrass the other girls. Unless she wants what they have. I think her feathers are so beautiful. Phlax, She is a bit of a different personality, and angling to be #2 hen (I'm going to break...

    My First Flock

Hi, I'm a newbie chicken keeper. I have 2 ISA Browns, 2 California Whites, and 6 lovely EEs. I got them as pullets (well, one of the EEs is a layer already), and hopefully soon there will be eggs. The browns and the whites came from one flock, and the EEs from a different flock. Its been...

Designing and Building my Fisrt Coop and run, in So. Cal.

This is from Dec. 14. Pretty much finished at this point. Still needs shavings for the coop, DLM style. Somewhere here on BYC I spied a thread about using fallen leaves inside the run. What a great idea! And perfect timing too. I hauled in load after load of leaf litter, the piles were knee deep...
