Bad Experience w/IDEAL Poultry Hatchery: Normal Occurrence?

I don't know how true that could be unless your work for the post office and actually see the process. I've ordered from IDEAL for several years including the last 2 and all of my chicks arrived fine. It could be that I am only a few hours away, but one of the regional post offices is an hour...

    Barnevelder roo!

My barnevelder is very gentle and protects his hens. I have 2 other roosters who are bantams and they all get along. He was supposed to be a she. I ordered 3 pullets but ended up with only 2.

    Help with breed ID?

My guess would be a light brahma for the pullet and the cockeral is mixed with something else. The comb doesn't match a brahma.

Last year was mites, this year fleas!

Doing better. I'm still treating their coops and runs, but I haven't had the chance to use either item on their faces. I'm thinking I will most likely go with the coconut oil and see how it goes. Today I'm going to a pyrethrin spray in the coops to kill any newly hatched fleas.

Last year was mites, this year fleas!

So last year my flock had a battle against mites and I was able to get rid of them. This year, it's fleas! I had never had a flea issue before, now my flock has those little stick-tight fleas on their combs, wattles, eyes, and etc. I did spray their coops with pyrethrin and dusted their dust...

    Mislabeled TSC bin....

UPDATE: My Russian Orloff is truly a hen. Her colors did change a bit and her legs stayed a light yellow. The one thing that looks a bit odd is her tail feathers are more to one side and not center like the other chickens. Sorry about the pictures, she doesn't stand still much.

    What breed are these chicks?

My last purchase at TSC last year were supposed to be 4 brown leghorn pullets and ended up with 2 brown leghorn cockerals, 1 easter egger pullet, and a russian ollof pullet.

Broody hen hatching peafowl question/broody question in general!

Wow, I would think the hen would get seriously underweight staying broody that long. A peachick takes about 28 to 30 days to hatch and chicks only take 21. So sitting an extra week to me is pushing it and you want another 28 to 30 days for ducks? To each their own, but in my opinion that's...

    Mislabeled TSC bin....

Thank you. I will provide another update as she matures more. The young boys are going to bachelor pads because they are becoming a nuisance to the flock, and I already have 3 Roosters loose with the flock.

    Mislabeled TSC bin....

Hope everyone is doing well. Here's an update from the mislabeled TSC bin. It's been 3 months since the last post here. I'm starting to think it is a cockerel and it's legs are turning yellow. Here's the easter egger. She's a beautiful fire orange color. And of course the two males that...

What is the longest time your broody hen sat on eggs for ?

This year was the first time my red cochin bantam got broody. Unfortunately she got broody in the large hens coop. Those the the eggs I pick up each day so she didn't have any. However, each time a hen laid an egg she would go sit on it. Most of my hens break out of it on their own but she...

    Mislabeled TSC bin....

On another note, these supposedly brown leghorn pullets ended up being cockerals but are they brown leghorns? Thanks in advance for your replies.

    What breed/sex is my chicken?!!!

I have to agree with tn_artist. The fifth toe is a dead giveaway of being part silkie, but as for the barred part, a bantam cochin would definitely fit the bill.

    Mislabeled TSC bin....

This is the first time I've ever heard of an Orloff. I can't wait to see how she will look when she molts. Thank you everyone for helping me identify her. I truly appreciate it.

    Mislabeled TSC bin....

They are pretty. I can't believe they are much bigger than mine and they are about the same age. Hopefully she'll grow some more before she hits 8 weeks.
