Hatching babies - vaccination ???? Mareks

Thank you for the resource! We have NOT had Mareks, BUT my established flock have all been vaccinated for it by the hatchery they came from. This is our first set hatch. Several sources said if you have a vaccinated flock you should vaccinate any new introductions.

Hatching babies - vaccination ???? Mareks

Hi there!! We have 18 fertilized eggs in our incubator— with a little over 2 days left on the countdown clock and we had a baby hatch in the wee hours of the morning! I know we leave it alone and don’t open the incubator during this precious time while the others hatch. I plan on vaccinating-...

    Necrotic tissue?! Any help appreciated!

My 2.5 year old Rhode Island Red got in the way of a little goat stampede on Friday. appeared to be injured - limping on right leg, not wanting to put weight down, etc... ⁣ ⁣ After observing for a little bit, and because she’s favorite girl and he won’t leave her alone, I brought her inside...

    LAYING IN ROOST SAND BOX

Im in se Georgia — outside of Savannah I have not witnessed anyone picking her - and she’s pretty high on the pecking order. We’ve confirmed no bugs, etc... the only thing I can trace back to is the change in feed when we introduced pullets into the flock It looks red in the pic but it’s not...

    LAYING IN ROOST SAND BOX

Literally— she’s ost all her chest feathers. She seems fine in every other way- but I am sure she’s laying the tissue paper egg in the roost! We have the oyster shell separate- but I do sprinkle too.

    LAYING IN ROOST SAND BOX

Have now had three separate occasions where I have found two eggs in the sandbox under the roost. One normal egg and one flat egg— basically tissue paper thin egg. I have to believe its one (or two) of my 2 year old hens because of the location and color. Our new chicks aren’t quite to lay age...

Pecking Order - Weird (?) Behavior

We did that- and Marta has gotten a lot better, they stay clear and she just does normal things now as far as - “remember I’m older than you”. The Maria thing is new. That’s why it’s weird. They’ve been together For over two years!

Pecking Order - Weird (?) Behavior

We introduced 11 chicks into our flock this year. We did everything by the book. Our established flock of five girls adjusted well with one exception. Marta is on the low end of the pole nd she seems to go after the babies (now 13weeka old) the worst. HOWEVER we have recently noticed that Maria...

    Bully Chickens - integrating Flock

My mean girl is a silver laced Wyandotte - I’ll take pics tomorrow of the run and coop I do let the big girls out a couple times a day for an hour or two so the little get to be out - and at night the bigs go to roost early- like 6:45-7pm for some reason but the kittens come back out the. To...

    Bully Chickens - integrating Flock

How long are you keeping her in jail? 24/7? What about when she needs to lay? Our run is 20x12- more than enough space! And we’ve added water and food stations everywhere! They have places to hide but still run back to the coop and jump on or behind the roosts! I’m thinking of blocking that to...

    Bully Chickens - integrating Flock

We have 5 chickens who are 2 years old- we recently introduced 11 new chicks- well they are 11 & 10 weeks now... we did it by the book- moved them out into the run/coop for a couple of weeks but in a pen inside the run so they can see each other, etc... but they have been integrated now - no pen...

    Feather Loss- Help

Hi! I have a flock of 16. Five are two years old and the rest are 11weeks old; process of integrating. I noticed today that one of my RIR 2yr olds has lost her chest/underbelly feathers. No sign of lice, mites, etc... and no one else is showing feather loss. She’s behaving normally. Coop...

    Chick with Coccidiosis

I should note that I noticed some stool evidence in a couple of the other chicks but none every got as bad off as Rey— it was touch and go for the first 24hrs with her. Which is why we isolated her and not any of the others.

    Chick with Coccidiosis

For us, we kept Rey isolated for the full course of the corid drench- which was three days- while still giving the whole flock and her medicated water only! When we moved her back in with the flock the medicated water continued for a full two weeks from start date- first week 2tblsp per gallon...
