Thank you so much and I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. The cream is Betafuse for dogs, 1mg/ +5mg/g gel.
How long do you think it takes before the scabs dry up and they are able to rejoin the flock? My cockerel has been in quarantine a month now and to be honest, his scabs...
Hi, I wonder if anyone here is knowledgeable about fowlpox? I have a cockerel who has it, we actually took him to a vet to get it confirmed and she prescribed antibiotics and a cream for his comb (expensive!). Since then I have kept him seperate and so far, fingers crossed, none of the other 4...
OK thanks this is helpful. To be honest she did have a lot more leg feathers so I probably just assumed they were black. That was when I first got them before I realised all the possible foot problems chickens can get. I appreciate your help 🙏
Hi, this is a picture of my pekin hens foot. I've treated her recently for bumblefoot, not severe and it's almost healed. She also had scaly leg mite which I managed to shift with vaseline. But I'm sure her legs useful to be black. Can someone advise if there's something else wrong here? Thanks...
Hi I have a few free range birds, two of them are polands. The problem is the keep getting diarrhoea. I have wormed them, that worked for a bit, then it comes back within a few days. If I keep them in a small cage with just pellets the diarrhoea stops too. It seems to be related to eating too...
Hi, Thanks for responding Eggcessive, by the time I saw your post things seemed to have improved a lot but I ended up with a really bad headache! It seems fortunately that something must have been caught up in there causing an impaction and I was able to clear it with the massage. She started to...
Hi, Another quick question:
I have read numerous reports of treating sour crop using monostat cream but that is only available in America. The main ingredient is miconazole nitrate.
I'm getting together a chicken first aid kit so I have what I need on hand but I don't want to poison my chickens...
Hi everyone,
I let the chickens out this morning, (they free range in the garden) and my pekin hen was huddled. I felt her crop and there was a hard ball of corn. I gave her some scrambled egg with oil and massaged the crop which broke up the ball of food. However she has still not pooped (other...
I want to train my pigeons to come in and out of the loft and all the necessary things of course. I was just wondering though out of interest if anyone had trained pigeons in the same way (some) people train parrots eg. to step up onto your hand, fly to you, sit on your shoulder when you're out...
Thanks that's helpful advice. We have a decent shed from our allotment which we are repurposing as a loft but now I know we need to build an avairy onto the side and we do have room for that. It makes sense, everyone hangs their washing in the little back yards and a flock of pigeons pooping on...
Ok thanks this is helpful. Honestly there is so little information out there about keeping pigeons, pigeon racing people seem to pass it down the generations and I don't know anyone who keeps fancy pigeons or rollers.
What is trap training? Is that when you get them to fly into a crate?
So in...
Antibiotics are what you need. Here in the UK you can't get anything without a visit to the vet but as Wyorp says you should be able to get this stuff from a local supplies business. It's definitely worth buying a first aid kit because you're bound to need it in future.
Also take the bird out and keep her separate, she is only acting fine because that's what they do to stop predators picking them out. Keep her quiet, clean the wound and follow the video if you can get hold of the stuff. If you can't do that it will probably be a case of putting her down because...
If she doesn't die, here's a great idea. You would need to act fast to get the stuff. In the meantime sterilise the area regularly, keep it clean. I use organic tea tree oil and lavender for wounds but over the counter stuff would do.
Check this womans blog, the holistic hen, she goes into...
We live in a city with lots of cats, they will have a loft but I want them to come and go, hopefully to perch higher up rather than on the floor. We actually live in terraced housing with lots of little yards separated by low walls / fences. We have bantams, including a sebright cockerel which...
I was thinking of archangel pigeons or white fantails or any of those fancy breeds? Do they tend to spend most of the time in the loft or on the ground? Thanks
