I have Buffs coming out my ears this year, but am struggling to hatch Lights. I think I have 5 chicks using 2 cockerels over 3 hens. No fertility now though the eggs are still coming.
With all due respect, you cannot take limited data on one highly selected variety and claim it pertains to an entire species. It would be like studying reproduction in Chihuahuas and claiming those conclusions hold fast for every canine.
That study was done in broilers. You cannot extrapolate that data to other breeds. Broilers are one of the most warped man-made varieties in the poultry world.
