Why is my young rooster picking on the largest hen in the group? He's so mean to her. The hen is twice as big as he is....they are roughly the same age. Aprox. 12 weeks old. He doesn't seem to want her around. All the other hens are just bothered by him occasionally.
Okay.....I live in California with a very mild climate. We have 7 chickens. Our coop is 4x4 with two roosts. It sits partially over the run, which is 4x8. The chickens are allowed to free range all day in the yard. Is this sufficient space? They seem very content with everything. They are...
I was wondering if anyone else is trying to keep a rooster in the city limits when we're not supposed to.....hee hee hee! I've had our 'surprise' rooster crowing for a month now. Not a peep out of the neighbors. I'm figuring it's Don't Ask Don't Tell at this point. We really want to keep...
I have a Crevecour chicken who we think is a rooster. He is about 9 weeks old and has huge red waddles. From what I can see on the website on these chickens the females don't have these as large. What can you tell me about this breed? Very interested in them. I am new to chickens as well...
I believe I have a rooster in my small flock...we are not allowed to have roosters in the city limits but we thought we'd wait until he crows and see what the neighbors say. My question is are they constant crowers? Mean? Do they sleep in the same coop as the hens? Don't know what to do. He...
My parents and my family are going on a 10 day vacation this summer and we were thinking she could bring her 5 chickens to my house and keep them with my seven chickens. They are all the same age (2 mos. at the moment) They would be kept exclusively in the run/coop for the entire time. Any...
What would be the best floor for the chicken run? We put the coop/run on pea gravel since it was already there. I have 7 chickens that free range during the day but still manage do poop alot in the run. It is starting to smell a bit and attract lots of flies. Only had the chicks in the...
I live in city limits and am planning on letting my chickens free range full time in my backyard, they would be in the coop at night. Does anyone else do this, who lives in the suburbs? I won't be doing this until they are full grown as well. Also will not let my dog in the backyard...
If I keep my chicks on medicated chick starter until they lay eggs can we eat those eggs? Does it affect humans? It doesn't say anything on the bag about this. Thanks!
"Her name is Woodstock...strange looking chicken to me. She looks nothing like any of my other young birds. I thought maybe she is a Hamburg. Also wondering if she is a pullet or roo. Thanks.
