The head shaking may indicate that something is in her throat. If you can’t see any food stuck down her throat then there is a chance that your hen may have gapeworm. One of my hens had gapeworm last year and she would shake her head and stretch her neck out to try and clear the worms.

Thanks, I’ve started treating the flock for lice and will continue to treat the white beak bump. I’ll keep a close eye on them to see if there is less lice/eggs and check the beak bump.

She dust baths and preens daily with the other hens.

I gave her a wash yesterday and she has full daily access to multiple dust bathing areas. I checked over her again and found some lice eggs so I will keep treating her. It’s strange however, that my other hens don’t have the same problem with their skin despite having lice occasionally.

Hi, I posted a thread a few week ago relating to the gender of my Rhode Island Red chicken. The consensus was that it’s a hen, however her tail feathers are growing and they are completely green like a rooster’s so I’m back to asking for help again.

Hi, My Rhode Island Red chicken that I bought a few weeks ago is starting grow grow out it’s tail. I’m starting to think it’s cockerel and not a pullet due to the tail feathers, except it’s comb is very small which would suggest that it’s a hen. What do you guys think?
