As we get closer to out emu hatching I just want to make sure that we got this right.
For feeding them I should get chick starter and turkey fed and mix them together right? Then offer a variety of fruits and veggies for them to pick from? Thanks in advance. I'm getting nervous!!
Here in Texas we got some genuine 'Texas snow'. I was so worried about my boy sitting on his nest but he made it through just fine. I'm thankful too because he is my favorite!
I'm also thankful it will be 75 on Sunday.
I got 12 bantams. They are almost 5 months old and I think they are dutch bantams.
So is this little one a boy or girl? I'm thinking boy.
It's very pretty I have one that is most definitely a roo and then some who are most definitely pullets but then some like this one who I can't tell.
Thanks...
I have always wanted some and finally last November I got two chicks. I just love them!!
I think they are splash? Anywho now we are just playing the waiting game to see if they crow or lay!!
To refresh I got this bantam chick and posted it up here. The general consensus was that it is a Sicilian Buttercup. Now it's grown a bit so here is an update and of course now I'm wondering is it a roo?
Thanks a million!!
I have a white crested black polish and was wondering if they are any easier to sex than silkies?
Here's a picture of our little...thing.
Thanks everyone!
Both our emus started loosing a little bit of feathers on their sides. We thought they were rubbing up against something that was pulling them out but they have now lost a LOT of feathers. And I do mean a lot. I look and I don't see any bugs on them, but maybe I'm not looking for the right...
So I posted a little while back with pics of a mystery bantam I got but unfortunately it passed away. The consensus was it was a Sicillian Buttercup, but this little one is supposed to be a bantam breed. So we went and got two more chicks, one exactly like the other and now it has its wing...
Last night we got about 6 1/2 inches of rain. It flooded the garage and a little bit of the house. Of course the chicks brooders are in the garage and within 20 seconds both batch of chicks were standing in cold water. We had to put them all in one storage bin while we dealt with the rising...
One of my Husbands 3 week old meat birds and my couple of days old mystery bantam. Hehe
ETA: This is a meat bird and one of my Buff Cochin Bantams which are the same age.
Because the 25 meat bird chicks, plus the 3 three week old bantam chicks, and the three 5 month old chicks weren't enough....I just HAD to go into the chick store at our local feed store and pick up three more beauties.
Sheesh...I'm becoming the chicken lady.
**Update. We wont ever find out I'm afraid. For whatever reason the little guy/girl didn't make it and passed away today. It sucks, but I know not to get too attached when they are young so I'm ok. Still sucks though. Thanks everyone for your input!!
I just couldn't stay out of the chick...
We ordered some red broilers about a month ago and boy...one came with spraddle leg and had to be culled. Another has just in the last week get spraddle leg, one just up and died. One had some weird bending on his legs and another one has blue on his legs (looks like veins or something). I think...
a Hovabator! I'm very excited to get with it and set some eggs. I have a modge podge of chickens and it will be great to see what mutt babies I can hatch!
I have a Drake who is kinda segregating two of the four females I have. One of them he has pulled all of her feathers just about out of the back of her head and she almost has no saddle feathers left. I have separated him from the group, so my question is can I do anything to alleviate the...
