Thanks everyone for the kind words. I’ve just been a mess all day today. I know I’ve given them a good, happy life, but I’m still sad. I think I’m just getting more sensitive as I get older.
Hello everyone. I have not posted on BYC in a quite a few years, as my flock has been doing good overall. Even with the good, I've lost 6 of my pet chickens in the past year, all of which had to be euthanized. Some due to old age, others due to treatable-when-caught-early conditions I did not...
Hi, sorry to hear about your hen. Photos will help if you can get them. Bumping for more responses and tagging a few others than may be able to help:

I know quite a few people on BYC don’t treat bumblefoot unless symptoms show, and I have done that myself as well. The hens that I treated all had visible limps and were picking at the scabs. You know your hen best, so do what you feel is the right decision (continue to use vet treatment...
We actually have a second hand dog house (it’s one of those igloo ones) that they like going into and under. I’ve also tried a agility dog tunnel but mine were afraid of it. An old wooden ladder would make for a good roost. Experiment and see what your flock likes!
That all sounds great! You could try planting your herbs in pots and putting chicken wire around the pot to keep the chickens away from the herbs. That way, you can have herbs in the run but the ladies won’t be able to get to them. I’m considering planting a run garden this year just for the...
Chickens love exploring new things, and a cluttered run tends to make for happy chickens! Even something as simple as a few logs (you can move them every few days and watch the girls gobble up all the worms/bugs hiding underneath) or a pile of leaves/mulch/grass clippings/veggie scraps will keep...
I would also add some “clutter” to your run, for more hiding spaces for the little ones to scurry away from the barred rocks. Stumps, branches, wooden boxes, piles of leaves/mulch to dig through, etc can all help “clutter” the run.
Ah ok, he is probably having issues then from the scaly leg mites and lice at the same time. I would continue treatment for both for an extended period of time, especially for his legs. I would treat until his legs looks completely normal. I’d also check the rest of your flock for leg mites and...
Hi! Sorry to hear about your rooster. It definitely looks like scaly leg mites. I would continue treatment. Also have you checked for bumblefoot, cuts, other foot and leg problems? Also how old is he?
Hi! Is there something scaring the ones who are staying in the coop? Or bullying? You can try and coax them out with some of their favorite foods or treats. Sometimes chickens just like to stay in the coop for extended periods of time, I know mine do in the winter (but I’m also in a much colder...
Hi! Sorry to hear about your EE. I’ve had multiple cases of bumblefoot with my flock. If you post some pictures of her feet, that would help! I’m glad you have a vet to take her too, as well!
As for the treatment and healing process, it does take time (weeks and even months) with or without...
